like ANY roof rack cargo, it will be cumbersome. is it safe? it depends if you installed it properly and how fast you drive. i carried a pw50 (standing up)on top of my wifes rx300 from illinois to california...it didnt budge or made severe noises.

There is no known fix for this issue. The only thing you can do is to try to use a lubricant on the threads to see if that helps.
