Ignition control module maybe . After it shuts off will it start right away or after sitting for awhile ? What engine does the vehicle have ? 3.1 , 3.4 l V-6 When it shuts off pull plug wires off the same coil an have someone try to start the vehicle . Do you see a spark jump from one coil tower to the other ?
Any chance you get take that in to get the codes read. That is important and step one of the process. This will tell you the problem. If you are getting spark at the plug then more then likely you are having fuel problems.
Since you have not replaced the coil look at the coil while the engine is running, listen for the click or popping noise, do you see a spark jumping from the coil to any surrounding metal surfaces, if so replace the coil, verify the noise and running problem go away. Hope this helps, let em know.
yes it is very likely it is a fuel pump sticking, to verify this buy a can of spray starter fluid, next time it won't start spray the starter fluid into theintake air hose on the engine, if it starts and then quickly shuts down u need a fuel pump, also replace the filter.
unplug distributor! find #1 cylinder, take out spark plug, placr finger over spark plug hole, bump starter until compression blows finger from spark plug hole, align mark on harmonic balancer with 0 mark on timing cover. engine is on compression stroke.install distributor with rotor contact pointing toward #1 wire location on distributor cap. install plug. install wire. engine will start.
is your check engine light on? If so, have it read from a neighborhood store (i.e. Checker, Autozone), they tend to do it for free. That will give you the reading on what it is. You may also want to take a look at your MAS air flow sensor. It will allow you to start your vehicle but will tell the engine that it is gasping for air and will shut down. (That is usually connected right after your air filter)
