Mysteriously will not start. All electrical fine, but when trying to start the car the external lights flash as if this problem is connected to anti theft...anyway, today, I turned the wheel to lock it, then turned key to put car in N, then it started. We rocked the car once and that worked. Today was the 3rd time car would not start in the last 3 weeks.
Sounds like the transmission interlock switch for the starting circuit is malfunctioning. It keeps the car from starting in gearshift position but park.
The interlock switch can be temporarily jumped out of the circuit to test if this alleviates the starting issue.
If it does, get repaired immediately since this is a safety feature.
SOURCE: steering wheel lock stuck, key won't turn
did you try just pulling the wheel to one side? If wheels are turned too far one way mine will lock up like that too - turn INTO the steer and then try to crank. Hope that is all it was! I hate my anti-theft and am tryin to have it completely disables - who is going to steal my '91 volvo???
SOURCE: 2000 volvo v40 wont start
Turn on the headlights try to start if the lights go off or go very dull the battery most likely is flat
If the lights stay bright, make sure the transmission is in neutral and the park brake is on.
Hold the key in the start position and let someone tab the starter motor with a hammer, often the tarter engaged, The problem in this case point to worn brushes.
Good luck
SOURCE: Volvo S70 won't start - battery, generator, or other
usually multiple clicking (like a machine gun) does indicate lw battery voltage. did you get 11.9 volts with it running or car off? with running you should be over 13.6 min up to 14.0 volts. these cars have a fair amount of electronics with some residual voltage draws which may shorten battery life. 4 yrs is not too bad. i would consider replacing battery
SOURCE: Alarm haywire, can't override anti-theft system or turn on car
The Alarm on my Mercedes ML320 sounded every night, then it started doing it more often, Showed it to the dealer he says it's the 'Tow Sensor', that needs to be repaced. $700, down the drain. I have already started hating this car, it eats $500-600, every 6 months...
