Bad ignition module behaves like that, could also be a bad pickup or rotor/cap.

Visual inspection to confirm dist rotor is turning. Check pick up coil under rotor, 2 small wires, green and white tend to break, pull on them slightly to check. The rotor can burn thru and short to ground. try these.

You need to have the ignition control module checked (It's inside the distributor)
