Yellow circle, with triangle and exclamation mark – The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) dashboard light flashes if the ESP or traction control is activated whilst driving. If ESP or traction control has been switched off, it will light up continuously. If ESP or traction control is not turned off and the warning light illuminates continuously, it indicates a problem and malfunction with either ESP or traction control.
On a Cooper S the Yellow Triangle is the slip control. If this light flashes it is letting you know that it is working by cutting horse power or by using the brakes to gain traction. If this symbol is illuminated you may have just hit the switch that says ASC or DSC. If the light does not turn off after hitting the switch or by turning the car off and starting the car again, you have a problem with the ASC/DSC control module or the wheel speed sensors. You will have to take your car in to have it checked out.
The "Check Engine Light" could be something major, or something as minor as a loose gasoline filler cap. The only way to know is to find someone who canattach an OBD-II code reader to your car's ODB-II computer port and talk to your car's on-board computer, and ask it what it thinks is wrong. Also, the "Yellow light with the triangle that has an exclamation mark in the middle and a circle going around" could be the SES light (Service Engine Soon), which could mean that everything is fine with the car, except the SES light needed to be reset at the 3400Km oil change, but it wasn't. In the U.S., Pep Boys and Advance Auto Parts are national parts store chains that will read the ODB-II codes setting your "Check Engine" light free - don't know who will do this free in Canada/U.K., though.
A yellow light containing an exclamation mark surrounded by a triangle, all surrounded by a curved arrow is the Automatic Stability Control warning light (ASC + Traction Control). If the light just flashes momentarily whilst driving it means that you have driven in a way that has triggered the ASC system to activate and protect you. If the light is on all the time it can mean that you have switched the system off. The switch for the ASC is one of the row of chrome switches just under the airconditioning controls. If you operate the switch and the light stays on, you have a faulty ASC system. OK to drive the car but be aware that the stability control will not save you from a skid. Have it looked at if you can't get the light to stay off.
Normal operation: Light on when you turn on the ignition, should go out after engine starts. Light flashes if you are driving hard on a slippery surface and the system is acting to stabilise the car.
Faulty: Light on all the time measn either you have turned the system off or there is a fault.
if the blinking light looks a cross section of a tire with a exclamation mark in it almost like this (_!_) it is just about the only one that blinks. its tire pressure light chk your air in all tires
If it is yellow and looks like a tire it is the flat tire light, and you should check his tire pressure. if it is a yellow triangle with an arrow going around the triangle with a exclamation point in the middle this is your DSC or ASC and if it is on all the time these features are inactive and you should hit the DSC/ASC toggle switch to the right of the drivers window switch. If this symbol just flashes briefly this means the DSC/ASC is presently activating. thest are the tow that I can think of, I hope this helps.
