My car is shaking when I turn on the engine and the light is flashing check engine. I find this quite odd since I got all the maintenance done on the car. (had an oil change, got all the repairs done from the recalls) I've only been driving it for a week and I made sure that I haven't driven it past 10,000 miles until it needs oil. I added oil today but yet it it still making a lot of noise. I'm terrified that I've ruined my car and have to buy a new engine which I just did a few months ago. -_- What should I do?

Try using a quality fuel injector cleaner as the problem may be bad injector operation
if the engine was washed at the inspection , could be water in harness connection or shorting out electronic components
have the fault codes read to check for problem sensors before you panic and waste money

Solution #1 has a good general approach. He didn't quite explain that when you go to an Autozone or affiliated type car parts supplier they will read the fault code from the car's computer using a "scan tool." They do this so that they can sell you the part. But, some parts are not easy to replace, and you should be very comfortable working on machinery before attempting a repair. I've done every type of car repair for myself for 50 years, and I don't always choose to do a repair myself just because I can. Consider going to the dealer right away as the check engine light comes on the majority of the time for one of two reasons: 1) it is getting an emission system fault often due to something as simple as a loose gas cap in which case you should check your manual to see how long/ or many on/off cycles it will take to clear the code after you retighten it :-), 2) an Oxygen sensor fault that may be covered by the warranty. When an Oxygen sensor fails the computer will go into a default mode that usually causes the car to consume more gas, but will not hurt the engine. Usually these sensors will last at least 100,000 miles or more with the generally clean fuels available today, but my wife's '06 Sonata lost one at 27 k Mi. Fixed under warranty, but took 4 days to get one into stock! Hyundai dealers tend to carry very meager parts inventory even for commonly needed items like fuel filters.

POWER STEERING PROBLEM - CONTAINER CONSIST TWO LEVELS. SHOULD THE BOTTOM PART BE THE NORMAL COLOUR OF THE FLUID AND THE TOP PART APPEARS TO BE DIFFERENT THEN REMOVE THE CONTAINER AND CLEAN PROPERLY AS THERE IS A SIEVE BETWEEN THE TWO LEVELS WHICH IS BLOCKED. DRAIN OIL FROM POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND REFILL WITH NEW OIL.
iF BELTS WERE RECENTLY CHANGED THEN THE PROBLEM MIGHT LY BY ONE OF THE PULLEYS THAT IS WARN. MEANING THAT THE BELT INBEDDS TO DEEP INTO THE PULLEY AND CAUSE THE BELT TO SQUEL. SHOULD YOU POUR WATER ONTO THE BELT WHILE IT IS SQUELING IT PROVES THAT IT IS EITHER THE BELT THAT NEEDS REPLACELMENT OR ONE OF THE PULLEY PROVIDING THE BELT TENSION IS INSPECT

SOURCE: check engine light is on in my 2005 Elantra newly maintenanced

Check your engine oil and break oil weather it is in below low level or full, if it has in low level get an engine oil for your car module and pour it. otherwise go to authorized Hyundai service centre and check for it.

SOURCE: my check engine light came on my 02 SantaFe, what can i do?

Have the codes read to find out the fault code that triggers the light. Go to a mechanic, or your local auto parts superstore and have them check it. Hope this helps.

My car tried to shut off going down the highway. Then it was shaking mildly. engine light came on flashing. This is a 1999 Dodge Stratus- 4cyl.-2.7 engine

The flashing engine light means the miss is bad enough to cause damage to the catalytic converter. The check engine light does not involve engine oil.
Are you saying the timing belt is not turning the cam ?

Check engine light flashing and shakiness in car accompanied with burning smell.

The check engine light flashing is a pretty much universal sign that you have a misfire that is bad enough that a lot of raw, unburned fuel is being dumped in to the Catalytic Converter, to the point that it could be ruined if the problem is not taken care of very quickly.

Check engine light flashing, knocking, low power

Hello Shena: The flashing check engine light means to get your attention as the engine is misfiring as well as having some sort of "fault" The only reason that light comes on at all is that your vehicle is exceeding federal tailpipe emissions by a factor of 1 and a half.
The knocking and shaking is most likely caused by the misfire.
Have it analyzed by a good shop and best case scenario is there is a malfunctioning spark plug, spark plug wire or ignition coil. Get it done right away, misfires can damage the catylitic convertor (thus the flashing instead of steady light)
It would help to know the VIN of the car so mechanics can drill in on the specific model of your vehicle.

If the coolant was frozen when you started the motor then there could be engine damage. If ok then run the fault codes and check for a faulty ambient temperature sensor.

Try putting some dry gas in the tank. There could be a little water in the tank. Also try a fuel injector cleaner. Simply follow the instructions on the bottles. Good Luck!!!

Maintenance Light goes on/off/on

When your vehicle is coming up for due maintenance, the light will flash for a few when you start the car. When the time for scheduled maintenance is due, the light will remain on constantly. It's just routine maintenance, but if you haven't done it, that's your reminder. Then, you or your mechanic will have to reset that maintenance reminder light.

Nissan Sentra "Service Engine Soon" and uncontrolable shaking.

I had the same problem. It was the intake gasket, very common in this model. A $12.00 gasket - Nissan wanted $1000.00 to install it. I got it done for $327.00 - engine light still remains on but car drives just fine.
