What do I need in order to add freon (R12) to my Corvette? I have 3 cans of freon, but no local mechanic will touch it. Also, by looking at the tubing under the hood, I can see where the freon leaks. How difficult is it to repair? Can I just tighten up the nuts at the tubing?

SOURCE: Have 1990 corvette with slight oil leak on oil

The problem may very well be fixed by tightening the boltto the factory spec, but what you must realize is the gasket has lost its even shape from extreme temperature changes.being its now thicker in one area as apposed to the next thus causing the leak from shrinkage.retightening the bolts tro specs will mean you are sinking the bolts at an uneven level and possibly warping the pan from ever seating correctly when facing the enevatable and thats replacing the gasket. i suggest just replacing the gasket with a quality aftermarket performance gasket as apposed to the factory gasket from the dealer or local parts store.you will find the quality and reliabilityand the longevity of the performance aftermarket gasket will far eceed the limits of that of the stock one.i know this wasnt a solution to your problem but hopefully i have saved you several hundred dollars from having to replace the pan itself due to the warping issue.

SOURCE: 1979 Chevy El Camino, automatic transmission,

There should be an o-ring type washer on the bolt. It may be necessary to replace the plug or place an o-ring or washer on the bolt.

SOURCE: air conditionerdoesn't cool....added freon....compressor seems to

Get yourself an electronic leak detector. The refrigerant used today has a smaller atomic size and leaks more easily. Most of the switching valves and duct doors are operated by vacuum or electric solenoids. If the mechanic suspects the compressor he may be talking about a gas leak rather than a mechanical problem. Anyway the gas detector and a lot of testing and investigation should reveal the gas leak if there is one. Check all fuses and vacuum tubing. I assume you have already looked at the sight glass. For a start check if the input side of the condenser is hot.

What a/c retrofit conversion kit do I need for my 1983 mercury grand marquis

Look up kits which change from R12 to R134 freon. In the beginning, things were advertised as incompatible and that compressors could not be reused

From what I understand there are chemicals which can be added to the systems once the old Freon and oil are removed. There are Freon recovery machines which collect the old material.

A technician then can add a neutralizer and refill the system with modern freon and the seals and bearings are suppose to handle the new chemicals.

So for the Freon recovery aspect, you need to go to a professional for this service.

Add freon 134a

R12 freon has not been used in production cars sold in the USA since 1994. So your Impala has R134.

What type of freon the 85 Corvette uses

Cars of that decade use R12 I believe. I have a 1991 corvette that also used R12. I had it converted to R134 so I could do the recharge myself if necessary.

Where do i put in freon

your vehicle came with R12 u can not purchase it , well depends on your STATE. but you will need to retro fit for R134A unless there is R12 still available at your area.

there are 2 locations a high side and low side most people use the low side connection to add freon.

My air conditioner is not working and I am trying to put in some freeon but i am not quite sure with it goes

When u purchase freaon these days from your local parts store its always R134A, which is allowed to be sold to the public.

You are either buying a self install kit or you will have to buy the kit to allow the freon to be inserted into the system. Not knowing what you have bought its hard to help you out. BUT all freon you will purchase goes through the LOW pressurse side of the AC system.

If you have to add freon you are loosing it which means you have a leak.Contamination is something you want to avoid. ALSO your vehicle is PRE 134A so you will need to have a station remove the R12 freon 1st if there is anything left in your system, them install a retro kit, but you will need to purchase some other items to allow this NEW style freon and oil to be able to be accepted.

Sorry alot of info here but you are working with an older car if you have not retrofited it with 134A before you will need to go to a shop that is able to handle the R12 freon 1st.

Good luck

I'm trying to find out what kind of air conditioner coolant goes in a 1986 chevy cavalier, and how to refill it

it takes R12 freon, but R12 is no longer made because it damaged the Ozone layer, so u must have a automtive repair shop convert the R12 system to the newer R134, this is fairly expensive, about $200

How do I add freon to the A/C on my 1993 Subaru Impreza ?

Hi DO NOT BYPASS the tryrister switch!!!!!!!!!.

You can safely add R12 (freon) from a can with the system not running ,when you have enough gas and oil mix added to the system the compressor will stsart automatically the problem you have is not knowing if there is a leak in the system,as you need to check this as venting R12 to the atmosphere can land you in prison if caught !!!!,.The best advice I can give you is take the car to an Air-con specialist and he will carry out all the checks on the system for you and re-gas the system properly.

R12 freon has been discontinued due to ozone depletion there for we have r 134a which is just as good but wont hurt the attmosphere you can do a conversion to 134 by changing the fittings to put freon in system you dont have to really change anything else
