2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata I had the seat out of the car (passenger side), the belt attached to the seat hanging out the door. The belt stopped working right, it only goes in and I can't pull it out. I set the seat back in and plugged the wires back in under the seat thinking it my have something to do with the elec. system in and turned the key on..... Didn't help any. I welcome any help I can get..... Thanks Mark
The ratchet mechanism is broken in the belt retainer system. If you are mechanically inclined, you can attempt to repair it yourself or purchase a new unit. Be careful, the return springs are very strong in them and can fly.
The seat belt has a spring and can become twisted and not completely go back in on its self you need to pull the seat belt all the way out, and slowly let it back in it should reseat its self make sure there is no twist overs while it goes back in.

Yes there is a history of problems with this system, one is the limit switches at eacg end of the track and the other is the motors, there is no real fix other than replacing it.

Sounds like petrol starvation - the pump may be in need of replacement.

check that there is a good connection from the earth to body (a lot of electrical problems are earth related) also that the connections on the battery are firm. check that the battery has good voltage.

Check your diagnostics in case they can reveal something...
If you're driving an American model WITH a check engine light on the
dash, put a paper clip between terminal 10 and GND in your diagnostic
box (right side of the engine bay near the air intake - has a big
DIAGNOSTIC written on it). Then hop into your car, turn the key to ON
(but don't start the engine). The light should go on steady - then off
for 4 seconds. After this any diagnostic codes will be displayed. Long
flashes are for the first digit in a two digit code - short flashes are
the second digit. There will be a 4 second pause between each code AND
the codes will repeat. If you get codes, record them and post them and
I'll see what I can suggest.
Otherwise, check your spark plugs and wires - replace them if necessary - check the coil packs and the connections thoroughly. Poor or no ignition is most likely your problem.
Also check your air intake, filter and check and clean your throttle body.
I'm betting you'll find an issue in the ignition system though.
Hope this helps,
Sherwin
SOURCE: My 2007 Mazda MX-5 MIATA has water leaking into
I don't have a good solution to this problem, but the solution published by mybunkey is incorrect. The problem has nothing to do with the air conditioning. The MX-5 has a couple of small pans located behind the seats under the area where the top folds. These pans catch water that runs off the roof and leaks into the passenger compartment where the roof joins the car. From these pans there is a hose that allows the water to drain through openings in the rear tire-wells. Unfortunately, not only water finds its way into the drains, but so do leaves, twigs, bugs and who know what else. Eventually the drains get clogged and the pan overflows right into the floorboard. It only took 6 months for this to happen to my 2007 in Houston. The dealer cleaned out the drains and replace the carpet, but his only suggestion for prevention was to not park outside! The REAL problem, however, is the drains are completely inaccessible - there is no good way to get to them to unclog them! An internet search will find several ideas about what and how to snake a piece of wire or something into the drains, but I’ve been completely unsuccessful. It’s raining her today, my floors are wet and my care smells moldy. This is my 3rd convertible and it’s the only one to have this has happened. It’s an inexcusable design flaw and frankly it’s enough to make me think of getting rid of the car.
