2000 Grand Caravan 145,000 pulled away from stop sign and transmission failed, fluid is good axles are good, you can hear a whine noise, if you let it sit for a while and put it in rev then forward you can feel it move very little. tranny never slipped or shifted bad ever before this, any idea i am thinking a torque converter?

that whine you are hearing is the transmissions torque converter , it is low on fluid , how long since you had auto tranny flushed , pull the tranny dipstick , fluid should be red or pink , if it is brown or even worse BLACK , your transmission is ready to fail

Just to get started, buy some transmission fluid. After you fill it up see if you still have a whining noise or if its fixed.

I would guess that something inside of the transmission has failed and there is no longer a mechanical connection between the motor and the drive axles regardless of what gear you attempt to move in.[sheared splines, broken planetary, etc.] Often when this happens you won't hear any kind of noise because of the failed parts being inside the transmission case...instead the car just won't go anymore. You could have a CV drive axle joint that has failed but generally they will make some noticable rattling or grinding noise as they churn away when you try to go forward or reverse. If something has failed inside of the transmission then the transmission will need to be removed and repaired. It if is just a drive axle joint that has failed then that can be replaced without doing anything to the transmission. Hope this helps and good luck!

It sounds like the converter may be failing.

Here is somthing easy you can check although it does sound like the axle joints.

If the driveshafts A.K.A. halfshafts aren't broken then you need a new transmission. Those Chrysler's are known for bad transmissions.

SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING.CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOW.ALSO IF TRANSMISSION FLUID LOOKS DIRTY DARK AND SMELLS BAD REPLACE FLUID AND FILTER.IF FLUID IS GOOD YOU HAVE.TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP AND FORWARD CLUTCH PROBLEMS.

fuel pump.get it changed before it fails.

take off the gear cover (at drivers wheel) and check. mine made same noise then the gears came out. (shaft broke)
