I have a 1989 Saab 9000. It run good most of the time, but lately it
won't start when it is warm. That is both, after being driven, and just
sitting in the sun. If I give it a boost, it will start. I can't believe
it is the battery! I also tapped the starter a couple weeks ago and the
car started, so I replaced the starter. No difference.
If you have any ideas I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Jim
The 900turbo engine start well when cold. But when its warm, sometimes it wont start unless you wait for an h
our and try again, then it will start very fine.
STRANGE...
Sounds like a crank sensor. They can drive you mad. If you hear a clicking sound when you try to start it, that is the battery. But if you turn the key it starts, you drive some place turn off the car for 5 minutes and then try to restart it, and it does nothing at all, that is a classic crank sensor.

most likely the linkage under the bonnet but you would need to have a good look as i suspect a idler stay bar has come away on top of the gearbox ,you will just have to have a good look
Maybe the anti lock brake ecu is bad or the sensors need to be replaced on the appropriate wheel as indicated by fault codes for the ABS system.
Fault codes were not provided on the original 1989 model of the Saab 9000, but the 1990 to 1991 model ecu can be installed and fault codes read from the AntiLock warning lIght flashing codes.
Check wiring to ensure there are no opens to the module from the ABS Wheel Speed Sensors.
Maybe check that the wheel speed sensor is picking up a sinusoidal wave of AC electricity when the wheel is spun as seen on an oscilloscope function of a multimeter. This would isolate the problem to wiring or the ECU being at fault.
You dont. Alternators DO NOT require polarisation as they can only be fitted to vehicles that are wired as NEGATIVE EARTH. If you have replaced the Alt, reconnect the wiring, reconnect the battery - Positive lead first then the negative lead, then start the motor !!
Using multimeter, check the charge rate at the battery. It should be around 13.8 volts. The charge rate SHOULD NOT go above 14.7 volts and if it does, turn the motor off immediately and recheck the connections, especially any battery voltage sensing wires. if nothing appears to be wrong, contact an auto electrician and have them check things out. I have known faulty regulators, even in new Alternators..
the valve seals in the motor are worn and letting oil seep into the cylinders when the vehicle sets overnight. when you start it in the morning it burns off the collected oil.. have oil seals replaced if you are parcial to your car....
the clutch is fed by the brake's .. its actuallly jsut break fluid.. if your low on clutch fluid it means you must have a leak check the master it self for leaks.
the metal rod came off the inside. You need to come in from top with a slim jim to open and then work on the door by taking panel off. Get a locksmith or call the local dealer and ask who is there SAAB roadside assistance. Also Cadillac dealers have a roadside service.
