When car gets hot it tries to die

When the car gets hot (temp gauge NEVER says its overheated) while driving, it starts to dis engage, it doesnt die but it just feels like i took my foot off the gas pedal. when i stop at a light its fine untill the light turns green, when i put the car in gear and start to release the clutch, it starts to go a foot or so and then it starts to bog down and i loose almost all power, then if i restart it, it will start right back up but then it usually will do the same thing, almost lose all power and not be able to move out of the intersection. however once i do get it going it will be fine, untill i hit another stop light. i also notice when i have a half a tank of gas or more it doesnt happen much at all if it does at all. it happens more as i run lower on gas. and it seems to run better when i have put 89 octane gas in it instead of the normal 87 octane that i used to run in it. lately i have also put in a gumout gas treatment in it and that seemed to help and it also has had a new fuel pump put in it. any suggestions would be very very appreciated!!! thank you!

the clutch does not feel at all like its apart of the problem, it engages, and then the car loses power....well, tries to almost stall out. hope this helps

You have an electronic engine control issue, testing will need to be done to determine the cause. The dealer has the tools needed to do the testing and the repair manuals to understand what shows up.

Check the fuel pressure. You may need a pump.

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL THE DIAGNOSIS & TESTING IS COMPLETED.

SOURCE: 96 Golf 2.0GTI 8v knocking noise from rear when accelerating

its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.

SOURCE: tdi clutch pedal pushed all the way down but hard to shift gears

Check your clutch fluid level, sometimes a seperate reservoir (drivers side on firewall), some clutch systems take fluid from the brake system (check brake fluid). If thats ok then the clutch slave may be failing.
If the clutch fluid is low refill it and check for leaks (or just wait till the symptom comes back). If it's happens often then theres a leak in the line or the slave somewhere.

SOURCE: Transmission will not engage gears but does turn

I take it's a manual transmission, and if that's the case, if the engine is running, and you difficulty changing gears, either the mechanical synchronizer of the transmission or master or slave cylinder is malfunctioning. This is further discussed in this handy diagnostic artice:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Transmission_System_Shifting_In_Manual_Transmission_No_Poss_Engine_Runs.htm

Here's another article discussing the car being stuck in one gear, which may give some complementary background information for you, specifying four probable causes of it:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Transmission_System_Stuck_In_One_Gear.htm

This should help.

Good luck!

Put a temp gun on the engine to make sure it isn't overheating making sure your top radiator temp is in the correct range of your bottom radiator temp (to rule out cooling system malfunction then try replacing the engine temp sender/sensor

Turnsover but won't start on hot days

This is a tough one something like this should be handled with a diagnostic tool. Seeing that your temperature gauge is pined when the engine is cold, your temperature sender could be sending false readings back to the computer, although your engine is equipped with the separate temperature sender for the engine control module. I once repaired a problem with the ignition coil, it would fail when hot, and start working again when it cooled down. This solution is really shot in the dark, I would pick up a diagnostic reader, they're not that expensive. GOOD LUCK

1992 chevy truck wanting to run hot and then gets rough idling like it is going to die out have to give it gas

So you attack the overheating problem first before you blow an engine.

Thermostat, fan clutch, water pump, blockage in cooling system or low coolant level are some of the possibilities.

Temp gauge on hot even though car is not overheating

Have you checked the temp sensor ? It could be faulty or there could be a wiring problem back to the gauge. Low coolant can cause an air pocket inside the system too.
