I have a 1993 Chevy k1500 Silverado with a 5.0 litre engine. I have been experiencing this problem for the last year. Out of nowhere, the speedometer starts running erratic in that it bounces back and forth and the transmission will kick into second gear and will no longer shift. What I have done is stop the truck and restart and everything seems fine. Thinking it was the transmission, I had it checked and they have replaced the speed sensor. This has not helped. I do not believe there is anything wrong with the tranny and more with the speedo or some electrical unit that is affecting the speedo which in turn afftects the tranny. I am at a lost with this thing.

Thank you - although this problem is not continuous and happens periodically, I gather it is still possible that it could be the ECU or TCM? I will check for any loose or poorly grounded wire.
i have the very same problem with my 95 k1500, we replaced the VSS on the taleshaft of the t-case and it still happens. We are going to try the computer tomorrow.

Please do let me know if you discover computer problems. I too am leaning on having the computer checked out. I have been checking for any possible loose or dirty ground wires and failing this will also turn to the computer.
