Speedometer runs erratic and transmissions drops to second gear.

I have a 1993 Chevy k1500 Silverado with a 5.0 litre engine. I have been experiencing this problem for the last year. Out of nowhere, the speedometer starts running erratic in that it bounces back and forth and the transmission will kick into second gear and will no longer shift. What I have done is stop the truck and restart and everything seems fine. Thinking it was the transmission, I had it checked and they have replaced the speed sensor. This has not helped. I do not believe there is anything wrong with the tranny and more with the speedo or some electrical unit that is affecting the speedo which in turn afftects the tranny. I am at a lost with this thing.

Thank you - although this problem is not continuous and happens periodically, I gather it is still possible that it could be the ECU or TCM? I will check for any loose or poorly grounded wire.

i have the very same problem with my 95 k1500, we replaced the VSS on the taleshaft of the t-case and it still happens. We are going to try the computer tomorrow.

Please do let me know if you discover computer problems. I too am leaning on having the computer checked out. I have been checking for any possible loose or dirty ground wires and failing this will also turn to the computer.

The ECM or TCM may be the culprit, its also possible that a ground wire is no longer grounded or partially grounded giving you the erratic speedometer.

My truck is a 95 chevy silverado 1500 it cuts off in 1st gear

Does it seem like when the engine is cold it runs ok, then when it reaches operating temp. it starts acting up? (poor acceleration, stalling) When I had that problem w/ my 93 K1500, it ended up being my oxygen sensor. (causing too rich of a mixture in the throttle body)
Hope this helps, Good luck

I have a 1993 Chevy Silverado Z71 with the 4L60E transmission and it starts out in first fine but then it skips second all together and hits third anyone know what it could be?

run fault codes and look for a TCM fault. have a pressure test done on the box to determine internal problems. Check band/clutch adjustments

1993 chevy k1500 5 speed shifter will not engage transmission

Will it go into gear if the engine is not running? If not then you have an internal problem. If is does, then you are looking at a clutch problem. Does it feel like there is resistance when you push on the clutch pedal? If not, you may need a clutch adjustment.

Does the clutch make noise when it is depressed? May need a new clutch assy.

I changed my Tranmission fluid on my 1984 Chevy c10 and gasket, filter now I'm trying to figure how many Qts of transmission fluid do I put back in.

It depends on which transmission you have in the truck but between 3.5 litres and 4.7 litres. Pick up 4 or 5 litres, add 3 and check the fluid level. Go from there. Before you check the level run the truck through all the gears slowly down to 1 and back to Park. Leave it in each gear a few seconds. Top it up and repeat until it's full. Hope this helps.

1994 chevy 1500 4 x 4. Transmission wont shift and speedometer quit working

Chances are that the vehicle speed sensor has failed. This would cause all the symptoms that you mention. If the computer doesn't seen any speed, then it has no reason to shift the transmission up and out of first gear. And of course, there would be no speed shown on the speedometer.

'93 chevy k1500 will not move in reverse. truck

You may have to check the valve for the transmission. Each of the gears has valves which sends the fluid to engage the gear. It may need cleaning or is faulty. Normally this happens when you have debris or dirt in your oil.

How would transmission fluid be leaking from inside the rear transmission yoke and dripping off the u-joint on a 93 chevy 1500 silverado 2wd 4.3 litre? no signs of leaking anywhere else.

Hi
What your are looking at is called an extension housing.
If you look at the point of where the shaft exits the extension housing you will see a lip seal.
I feel that your lip seal has failed..
Hope this helps.
