Moselecm, Audi's transmissions are known for very late clutch engagement, so that part is normal - they're built that way and are not adjustable. To be sure it is really slipping due to wear and not just unfamiliarity, put the car in fifth gear at about 30mph and FLOOR the gas. If it's going to slip, that's when it will slip.
As for the fluid, it shares a reservoir with the brake fluid reservoir - take a look there at the fluid - what you see in there will be the condition that both the brakes and clutch are operating under.
MoSelecm, it seems like you will need a new clutch

my 2000 A4 2.8 manual clutch is engaging late (only grips after the pedal is almost let out), and when the pedal is fully released and accelerating, it slips and causes the engine to rev easily. is there a clutch fluid for the main cylinder hydrolics that I can check? I know it could be completely worn, but it seems like it's something else, I want to check other options before I pay to take the transmission completely out.
I found the root cause to this proble I am afraid. My initial thoughts were the slave cylinder which unfortunately is inside the clutch houseing so I chickened out and took my car to the garage to have this done, Unfortunately, the root cause was not the slave cylinder but the flyheel movement had seized up. There is suppoed to be 35mm of movement but there was on 5mm, This was unfrtunately an additional 400 quid to the repair bill
