How i adjust the transmission shifter for a 98 kia sephia. Everytime i change gears, the shifter has to be moved in wide motions. When i put reverse, i have to move the shifter way to the far right and back, to far that it has broken the console.
This problem is common to the Mazda Protege, Ford Escort, and Kia Sephia due to the fact that they all share the same manual transmission and common shifter linkage design. There are actually 2 sets of bushings that wear out and fail, one is located at the shifter, the other is where the shift linkage connects to the transmission. The result of this failure is that larger than normal shifter throws are required and a lot of slop is induced into the system. Solutions are either order OEM parts, use Mazda if at all possible since they're the least expensive of the bunch and it's the same part on all of them, or order an aftermarket set from corksport.
There is a bushing that keeps the shifter tight it shhould be under the car right under the shifter linkage before the linkage connects
