Headlamp assembly on Pontiac G6

What holds the bottom of the headlamp assembly to the body on a G6?
I have removed two screws on top of unit along rad.support member. The unit is loose but won't release at the bottom. If it has those plastic "pop" retainers how do you grip it without breaking it? Just trying to replace the bulb.
Thanks for any help.

Well there isn't much on gripping the retainers, what they are, are plastic ball and socket clips. I would lay some tape down underneth the lamp onto the bumper to protect the bumper and then the hard part...while making sure the headlamp is above the bumper, pull with some force on the back half of the light to where it meets with the fender, after a little pulling it should (no promises) should come out, it will seem like it will break but it shouldn't. (I use to work at a body shop and did many of those headlights including my own '06 G6.) Hope that helps.

How do i replace a leaking headlamp in a 2006 pontiac g6?

It's very hard to take the Headlamp assembly out and try to seal it correctly with either glue or RTV. Many folks drill two holes ( about 1/8" in the bottom of the lense assembly and let the water out as fast as it comes in. Put one hold close to the Fender and the other one closer to the center of the car, this way when you park on an uneven surface the water will run to one side or the other and drain.

How to change headlight lamp in 2005 Pontiac g6

To change the bulbs you need to first remove the 5 plastic pop screws on the front bumper. They're spread out at the top of the bumper right under the hood. Once you get those out, you have to remove the two hex bolts on each headlight. Then it gets tricky. You need to pull the light towards the front of the car until it pops out of the ball-bearing type mount on the fender. Once that pops out, you have to pull the front bumper forward while maneuvering the headlight out towards the front.

As per the manual it says as follows:---

Open the hood.

Hold the headlamp to prevent damage to the headlamp or to the fascia. Remove the bolts from the headlamp assembly. Remove the push-in-retainers across the front fascia. Remove the headlamp assembly. Lift the headlamp upward to release the locating tab from the front edge of the fender.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlamp assembly.

Remove the headlamp bulb access cover by rotating the headlamp bulb access cover counterclockwise, if necessary.

Remove the headlamp bulb from the housing by rotating the socket counterclockwise, if necessary.

Disconnect the headlamp bulb electrical connector, if necessary.

Remove the park/turn bulb access cover by rotating the cover counterclockwise, if necessary.

Remove the park/turn bulb from the housing by rotating the socket counterclockwise, if necessary.

Gently pull the park/turn bulb from the socket, if necessary. Install the park/turn bulb into the bulb socket.

Install the park/turn bulb socket into the headlamp housing by rotating the socket clockwise.

Install the park/turn bulb access cover by rotating the cover clockwise.

Connect the headlamp bulb to the headlamp electrical connector.

Install the headlamp bulb into the headlamp housing. Rotate the socket clockwise until locked.

Install the headlamp bulb access cover by rotating the cover clockwise.

Position the headlamp assembly to the vehicle. Lift the headlamp upward to release the locating tab to the front edge of the fender.

Install the bolts to the headlamp assembly. Tighten the bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

Install the push-in-retainers across the front fascia.

Close the hood.

Can you just replace the headlamp or do you have to do the whole headlight assembly?

Those are sealed unit headlamps, you need to replace the entire headlamp, not the bulb.

There are 4 screws on the trim ring, don't confuse the aiming adjusters. Remove the 2 bottom screws, then one of the top screws. While holding the headlamp in place, remove the last screw. Hold the headlamp out far enough to be able to unplug it carefully. Then just reverse this to put the new one in. There is a top and bottom on the headlamp, (make sure you can read the name on the headlamp lens) and on the trim ring (make sure the holes line up.

It would also help to buy some silicone bulb grease for the connector, this'll keep it from corroding. Just smear some grease on the prongs before you connect the new headlamp.

    Headlight replacement

you doo not need to remove the bumper...the rt side is a bit tighter than the left side though..on the back of the headlamp are plastic screw retainers..they turn 1/4 to 1/2 turn to unlock the headlamp bulbs.( you could remove the battery to do this..it will certainly give you more room.) once you turn the lock grab the bulb and pull it straight back , unplug it and plug the new one in. be careful not to touch the new bulb glass with your fingers as this can get oil on the surface and create a "hot spot" which can lead to premature failure!
