It is probably where the seat belt plugs in (Stalk) This will cause both lights as it is part of the SRS (Suplimental Restraint System). Start by looking under the drivers seat at the wire from the seat belt stalk & look for any damage to the wireing. Then check passanger side. It is normaly drivers side cause that is the seat that gets mved most. All SRS plugs should be yellow for identification

Is the theftlock light lit up on the dash? It it is you may have a problem with the GM manufacturer theftlock device. The Theftlock system prevents the vehicle from being started without its own key and shuts of the fuel injectors which is typically why it turns over but won't start. It's quite problematic on mine and locks the car so you have to replace the cylinder.

If the "Theft System" light is flashing on in the dash sit in the car with the key in the "On" position. When the light stops flashing it will light solid for a second then go out. Open and close the driver side door, turn the car off, turn and start the car. This resets the theft lock and I kid you not it works.

SOURCE: instrument cluster bulb is out. how do i replace

It may not be a bulb, as the instrument cluster usually has a number of bulbs and they probably didn't all blow at once. Pulling instrument clusters can be touchy and may not be for the average "shadetree mechanic" however, typically there are a few screws above the cluster going into the dash pad and a few hidden behind the trim panels below the cluster.

How do we get a 2006 Uplander to stop chiming?

What is it chiming ? Chimes for different reasons , headlamps on , seat belt not buckled , etc.... What warning light is lit on the instrument cluster ? if any . seat belt , air bag's etc...

Audible Warnings Description and Operation
The audible warnings alert the driver of a system concern or a critical vehicle condition. The following lists the audible warning priority and the pulse rate:
Fast rate chime (200 pulses per minute)
Medium rate chime (150 pulses per minute)
Slow rate chime (50 pulses per minute)
Single chime
Fasten Safety Belt Warning
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) activates the fasten safety belt audible warning for 5-8 seconds. The fasten safety belt warning sounds and the fasten seat belt indicator illuminates when the following occurs:
• The ignition switch is in RUN, BULB TEST, or START position.
• The SDM detects that the driver's seat belt is not buckled (signal is low).
If the seat belt is buckled before the ignition is in RUN, BULB TEST, or START position, the chime does not sound. If the seat belt is buckled while the chime is sounding, the chime stops.
Key-In-Ignition Warning
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) activates the key-in-ignition audible warning. The key-in-ignition warning sounds when the following occurs:
• The ignition switch is in OFF, LOCK, or ACCY position.
• The body control module (BCM) determines that the driver's door is open (signal is low).
• The BCM determines that the key-in-ignition switch is closed (signal is low).
Lights On Warning
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) activates the lights on audible warning. The lights on warning sounds when the following occurs:
• The key is not in the ignition.
• The body control module (BCM) determines that the drivers door is open (signal is low).
• The BCM determines that the headlamp switch is in the park or head position.
Rear Parking Assist
The rear object sensor control module activates the audible warning. The audible warning sounds whenever any of the indicators are illuminated on the rear parking assist display. For a description of the rear parking assist system refer to Object Detection Description and Operation.
Turn Signal Reminder
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) sounds the turn signal reminder once per each flash of the turn signal lamps when:
• The ignition switch is in the RUN position.
• The turn signal switch is in either turn position, sensing, within 1 second, an open to B+ transition in the turn signal control circuit (left or right turn).
• The vehicle has traveled a distance of 1.2 km (0.75 mi) by counting pulses on the vehicle speed input circuit.
The IPC turns off the turn signal reminder when either the ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position or to the OFF position, or the turn signal switch returns to the OFF position, sensing, within 1 second, no transitions from open to B+ in either of the turn signal control circuits (left turn or right turn).
Additional Chimes
The following chimes will turn on when an associated indicator turns on in the instrument panel cluster (IPC):
• Low Fuel Indicator
• Low Oil Pressure Indicator
• OVER SPEED indicator
For a description of an indicator refer to Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation.
For diagnosis of an indicator refer to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

Your have a problem with one of these systems , your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop. They would do diagnostic's to find the problem .

Do any indicators illuminate when the chime sounds?
Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console
Go to Step 3
3
Turn the ignition OFF.
Remove the key from the ignition.
Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.
Close all of the vehicle doors.
Open one or more of the vehicle doors
Does the chime sound at all times regardless if the doors are open or closed?
Go to Step 15
Go to Step 4
4
Close all of the vehicle doors.
With a scan tool, observe the LF Door Ajar Switch parameter and the RF Door Ajar Switch parameter in the instrument panel cluster BCM/Inputs data list.
Do all of the Door Ajar Switch parameters display Door Closed?

With a scan tool, observe the Left Rear Door Ajar Sw. parameter and the Right Rear Door Sw. parameter in the instrument panel cluster BCM/Inputs data list.
Do all of the Rear Door Switch parameters display Closed?

My 2004 Pontiac grand am se1 acts like door is open and interior light stays on also does t lock on its own when in gear and lights don't blink and horn not honk when locking with key bob

Door ajar switch problem more then likely or wiring issue . The BCM - body control module won't turn off interior light , let door lock because it think's the door is open . The door ajar switch is a input to the BCM .

The first thing would be to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Also check with an enhanced scan tool to see if the BCM shows ajar switch data (open or closed ? Do you know about body electronics ?

I have a 2005 Ford Focus and the fuel light stays on. It is very dim, even when I shut the car off.

Principles of Operation
NOTE: When installing a new instrument cluster, the new instrument cluster must be configured. Refer to Section 418-01 .
The instrument cluster is a hybrid electronic cluster (HEC) which receives and outputs information using both hardwired circuitry and the controller area network (CAN) communication circuits.
It is very important to understand:
  • where the input originates from.
  • all the information necessary for a feature to operate.
  • which module(s) receive(s) the input or command message.
  • if the module that received the input controls the output of the feature, or if it sends a message over the CAN to another module.
  • which module controls the output of the feature.
The instrument cluster carries out a prove-out when the ignition switch is turned from the OFF to the RUN position to verify the integrity of the warning indicators. The charging system warning indicator, the low oil pressure warning indicator and the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminate when the key is turned to the ON position, and then turn off when the engine is started. The seat belt warning indicator proves-out for 60 seconds and then turns off, or turns off when the seat belt is fastened. The following indicators prove-out when the key is turned to the ON position:
  • door ajar warning indicator (3 seconds)
  • anti-lock brake system (ABS) warning indicator (3 seconds)
  • O/D OFF indicator (3 seconds)
  • air bag warning indicator (6 seconds)
  • brake warning indicator (3 seconds)
  • door ajar warning indicator (3 seconds)
  • shift up indicator (3 seconds)
  • low fuel warning indicator (3 seconds)
  • traction control indicator (3 seconds)
  • check fuel cap indicator (3 seconds)
  • passive anti-theft system (PATS) indicator (3 seconds)
Low Fuel Warning Indicator
The instrument cluster utilizes fuel level data supplied by the hardwired fuel pump module to control the low fuel warning indicator, which illuminates when the fuel drops to a pre-determined level.
Your best bet is to take this to the Ford dealer , unless you have Ford IDS - factory scan tool to diagnose this

Hi Cari, That means there are defects in the operation of both circuits. Take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan, find out what is wrong and have them fix it. The seat belt light should be a fairly stright forward job but the air bag must be diagnosed. Regards John
