I am tryilng to remove the water pump on my cadillac deville, 1998. The socket will not get tight when trying to remove the water pump. It will get in a bind if I attempt to tighten it, but that does not help me get the water pump off. What options do I have for the pump removal other than the tool?

SOURCE: water pump still leaks 92 cadillac deville

I hate to tell you this because I know it isn't an easy task changing the water pump but if it is coming between the block and the water pump housing you need to pull it back off and make real sure it is very clean by scraping the old gasket off and putting sealer on the gasket. Every bit of the old gasket has to be removed before putting the new gasket on. You could try and tighten down your bolts a little but be careful not to break the bolt or you then have another problem.

98 caddilac deville running hot

The water pump is in the back of the motor on this one, it requires a special socket to remove and replace. If you have been scratching your head on this one, Cadillac had head gasket bolt issues, the bolts stretch and the gasket leaks internally.

Water pump removal, the tool that everyone has does not fit on the water pump to remove it

Is this a Northstar? The tool fits, however there is a cheap version and an expensive version.Sometimes these pumps are stuck in their housing quite tightly, and only the stouter , more expensive (around 130 dollars ) version will remove them. I've had very good luck with my 35 dollar socket. Sometimes you need to gently tap on the back with a hammer to loosen it up. You also need to use a long ratchet or breaker bar ( at least 18') for leverage. I don't mean to sound condesending, but make sure you are putting the tool in the correct place, and make sure you're turning it the right way. Good luck , and contact me if you need more help.

Where is the water pump on 1998 cadillac catera 3.0 engine

The water pump will take a special tool to remove it. Have someone that is trained to do it. It attaches by turning it clockwise with a sea installed along with itl. Do not attempt to do this job unless trained

Trying to locate water pump on my 2000 caddy deville

Its on the same side of the engine as the transmission, driven by the belt up top. It requires a special socket to remove the pump from the housing.(also, the pump turns clockwise to remove!)
