Not a Peugeot expert here, but generally the rear brakes have to be adjusted to make the parking brake work. Sometimes the cable going up to the handle can be adjusted too.

most times the hand brake top screws down to adjust the brake but there is normally an adjustment under car where the cables from the rear wheels join the single cable going to the hand brake If the hand brake top has been screwed down all the way loosen it up al the way before adjusting anything
First make sure the rear breaks are ajusted or replaced when worn out drum to be skeemed aswell. Usally whe rear brakes are ajusted hand break will stop car on two to four clicks on hand brake rachet. If brakes is ajusted check cables for wear . Then ajust cable insite car remove hand brake cover and you will see a ajustable screw or nut. Rememeber to put the handbrake on four clicks and dont tighten screw or nut to much the brakes will lock
they could be binding on also get the breakes checked see how much frivtion material is left on them incase the calipers are at the maxamum they can go jack the car up when its been running and spin the rear wheels to see if there draging if so check hand break ajustment and rear shoes for same as front if all this is ok then move onto master cylinder if this is starting to go this can make the pedal feel hard also get the servo unit on the front of master cylinder checked as this is where the power comes from to make the car stop check hoses and pipes for leaks or cracked pipes hope this helps ivan
should be self ajusting if not there should be a nut conected to the hand breake either remove cowling around hand brake if not i may be underneath the car where hand brake comes out of the floor but most cars now can be ajusted by removing the hand breke trim
your handbreak connects to the rear breaks follow the cable from your break drum where the 2 meet is the ajustment give it a squart of penertrating oil before ajusting as it has been open to the weather also there is further ajustment where the cable enters the hand break lever good luck ps if this dosent do the trick i suggest you cable is fully streched you will need to fit a new one
Lift the armrest, inside the compartment remove the rubber liner. Through the hole you will see a threaded rod with a nut. Using a deep 10mm socket thighten the nut. That's the easy way. The hard way is removing both rear wheels and adjusting the hand break drums pads located inside the hubs with a screwdriver.
I THINK THAT THEY AJUST FROM INSIDE SO YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE DOOR CARD TO UNDO POWER CABLE REMOVE MIRROR AND CHANGE AJUSTMENT BENT CHROME LOOKING THING . YOU WILL NEED SOME STAR SCOKETS FOR THE WINDER HANDLE AND LIFT THE DOOR CARD IT SLIDES UPWOODS REMOVE SPEAKER YOU"LL FIND CABLE CONNECTOR THERE. GOOD LUCK
Are you sure the switch is bad? sounds to me its just out of ajustment. The little plunger is not comming out far enought from break peddel arm to turn them off. It should have a one piece plastic clip on the electrical plug that snaps over a raised piece of plastic on the switch witch has to be pulled up to release it. Once you get it unpluged you can move it back and forth to get the right ajustment.
