The backlight bulb behind the display has failed. you will have to remove the radio and take the top of the radio off to get to the lamp. They are not a common light for automotive use so you may have some fun finding one.

SOURCE: radio lights off on 1998 ford explorer

1 -Check your head light switch and turn signal switch by taping them lightly - Common problem with fords to short signal light switch/head lights and they also have radio lights/clock lights control(lights dim for Radio/clock when you turn the lights on)

If you have checked all the fuses and switchs, possible that the light bulbs have burned out. Check with a local radio repair shop and they can remove the radio and install new bulbs.

SOURCE: Where can I get a speaker wiring chart for 97 Ford Explorer

Perhaps there was another system installed at another time and someone cut the wires within the system to make that particular stereo system work. Inspect the wires all the way from the decks wiring harness to the speakers, they could be cut and you might be able to splice the wires and reconnect them or you may have to run seperate speaker wire for each speaker to resolve this issue.

SOURCE: I cannot get the CD player to eject the CD. the

I have a ford focus 2005. The standard radio stopped working and the single cd would play but would not eject. I checked the fuses by removing them and now nothing works,. I have the correct code which I have used before but now it will not accept the code - in fact when the buttons are pressed no numbers appear

All radio, cd tape function buttons on 98 explorer stopped working

just removing ur radio would cause this (ive had mine out a dozen times) make sure all plugs and the antenna is plugged in snug, also you can try another compatible radio just to make sure from another ford (the two square connector style is refered to as the "world" plug)
