Is there a button by the headlight control switch? I recently found out that the dome light only comes on while the doors are open when this button is engaged

There is a timer for the interior lights. The lights come on when you remove the key to give light exiting the truck. ( normal I think )
There should be a door switch on each door that makes the interior lights come on when you open the doors.
The problem could be in the timer too.

SOURCE: brake lights wont turn on.1994 gmc sierra.

This may sound too simple, but first verify that you are getting voltage to the light socket. Use meter on d.c. If you are getting voltage, and your bulb is good, it could be a bad ground. Don't overlook the brake light system goes through the directional signal in the steering column.

SOURCE: 1997 GMC Sierra Ignition Switch Replacement

take off the cover on the top and bottom of the steering column just behind the wheel. pop the tilt lever out simply just by grabbing it and give it a good tug. then once you have the new switch and you get in there your going to need an inverted torx socket to remove the small bolts that hold the switch to the column. do not move the gear on the new switch make sure it lines up exactly as the old one did!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: Ignition switch

The Switch is bolted about half way down the steering column on the top I believe. You will have to remove the plastic cover beneath the steering wheel to get to it. Unplug wiring connector from the switch and remove two bolts holding it to the steering column there is a long rod coming from the cylinder lock that hooks into switch, it should come right out after bolts are removed. It will help if you are a contortionist and have very small fingers :)

Dome lights won't work on my 2005 Chevy equinox

The courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the body control module (BCM) supplies battery positive voltage to the dome lamp, the liftgate lamps, and the map lamps. When any door is opened, the door jamb switch contacts close providing a door open input to the BCM. The BCM then provides a ground to the interior lamps with the switch in the AUTO position. The interior lamps receive a ground at G401 with the switch in the ON position.
The following lamps may be manually turned ON by placing the interior lamp switch in the ON position, or by opening a door while the switch is in the AUTO position.

The dome lamp

The liftgate lamps

Courtesy/map lights

You can't turn them on manually ?
This could be a BCM problem , this best left to a ASE certified repair shop or the dealer .

Interior light delay

Same for both doors? If not, I'd check the switch(s) on the drivers door (may be more than one), or may be just one that has multiple contacts and the ones for the lights may be faulty.

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra and the radio and dome light doesn't always respond when the drivers door is opened. It does work properly when any other door is opened.

you have a bad door switch on the drive's door - replace it.
more then that you may have a short in the wires coming from the car frame to the door itself, but try the switch first.

None of interior lights do not come on when I open the door.

Does your dome light turn on manually? If not you may need a bulb. If the light works manually, be sure it is set for using the door switch. All that said, the door switch often fails because it has a bad grounding to the door post. Try improving the switches mounting. If you can remove the wire from the switch and touch it to a good ground and the lite works......youi need a new switch

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 and the dome light will not work when you open the door, it will work however if you turn on the dash brightness control knob? What fuse controls this function?

This may not be a fuse if the light works otherwise. Try checking the wiring to the door switches. Sometimes the spade connectors work loose or corrode, so the circuit cannot be closed.
