    OPERATION

When the term Electronic Control Module (ECM) is used in this guide it will refer to the engine control computer regardless that it may be a Vehicle Control Module (VCM), Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM).
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) is required to maintain the exhaust emissions at acceptable levels. The module is a small, solid state computer which receives signals from many sources and sensors; it uses these data to make judgments about operating conditions and then control output signals to the fuel and emission systems to match the current requirements.
Engines coupled to electronically controlled transmissions employ a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM) to oversee both engine and transmission operation. The integrated functions of engine and transmission control allow accurate gear selection and improved fuel economy.
In the event of an ECM failure, the system will default to a pre-programmed set of values. These are compromise values which allow the engine to operate, although at a reduced efficiency. This is variously known as the default, limp-in or back-up mode. Driveability is almost always affected when the ECM enters this mode.

I need the location of the brain box on a 99 Ford Windstar

In a 1999 Ford Windstar, the main electronic control module (ECM), commonly referred to as the "brain box," is typically located in the engine compartment.

Specifically, it is situated on the passenger side, near the firewall.

You can typically find the ECM mounted on the upper part of the engine bay, closer to the windshield, and it is enclosed within a protective case.

Where is the ecm on an 2008 oz trike chopper 2?

The ECM, or engine control module, on a 2008 oz trike chopper 2 is typically located under the seat or in the engine compartment.
To locate the ECM on your trike, follow these steps:
    1. Locate the seat of the trike. The ECM is often located underneath the seat or in a compartment built into the seat itself.
    2. If the ECM is not located under the seat, it may be located in the engine compartment. The engine compartment is typically located at the front of the trike, behind the front wheel.
    3. Look for a box-like component with wires connected to it. The ECM is typically a small, rectangular component with several wires connected to it. It may be labeled with the initials "ECM" or "ECU" (engine control unit).
    4. If you are unable to locate the ECM using the above steps, consult the owner's manual for your specific model of trike for more information.
Note: The location of the ECM may vary depending on the specific model and configuration of your trike. If you are unsure of where to find the ECM on your trike, it is recommended that you contact a qualified mechanic or the manufacturer for assistance.

On my 2001 Nissan Quest 3.3L #5 cilynder miss fire replace sparkplugs, wire, distributor, and injector still miss fire so I hook a noid light to it, it won't light up at all can it be the ECM and if you...

I don't know where it is, probably under the passenger side dash. But before condemning the ECM, check the wiring to that injector. First try to determine if it is the power wire or the ground wire for the injector which is lost. With key on, the yellow power wire should have voltage on it at the injector connector. This is independent of the ECM-only the ground wire goes into the ECM, to be internally grounded to pulse the injector. The #5 ground wire is a yellow-green wire.

If you have voltage on the power wire to #5, key on, then we know either the ground wire is bad (broken or open) to the ecm -or the internal ground for that injector is out, inside the ECM.

To determine whether it is the ground wire or the ECM, you will have to locate the ECM, pull the electrical connector off to it (Be sure and take the negative battery post off, first.), then locate the yellow green wire at pin #106 of the ECM electrical connector. Now test the continuity of that wire from the injector connector to the ECM connector-use a voltmeter set to ohms. If the wire has continuity, then the ECM must have a problem- the internal injector driver for #5 may have failed. Also look for a bent pin at #106, or anything amiss in the electrical connector. In most cases, it is not the ECM but a wiring problem.
Good luck. To locate the ECM, register for free at autozone.com, listing make, model, and year. Look under "repair guides", then component locations-it should tell you the location of the ECM.
