SOURCE: 1998 BMW Z3 1.9 Cylinder

Spark plug wires may be the cause. for cold damp start issues water is a conducter and will send spark directly to an engine ground not through spark plugs. also look for oil in spark plug wells this can also cause a misfire under certain conditions.

its the dreaded seat rock syndrome, plenty of fixes on the forums, basically you have to replace spacers in set drive mechanism. I did with the help of a friend after ordring bushes and it was quite easy.

SOURCE: how to install rear shocks for 1998 bmw z3

They're not shocks they're struts. It requires spring compressors and air impact tools.

Unless you have them and the know how how to compress strut springs. don't do it. It can be dangerous.

It's why it's a lot of money to have it done.

I would suspect that you pulled a wire off when you were installing the water pump. Check to see if you have spark

1998 Z3.. Manual Trans shudder under acceleration in 2nd gear as it nears 2000 rpms, then goes away as it approaches 2500 rpm's.. Any suggestions?.. Thanks

It could either be the flex disc or drive shaft center bearing. I had the same problem on my 98 Z3 and I replaced both and it took care of the problem.
