2005 XC70 Power Steering Noise

Now that Winter is upon us in Asheville, NC, my wife's 2005 XC70 has developed a sound in the power steering (only yesterday afternoon and this morning). It "sounds" as if it is low on fluid but does not appear to be. The car is garaged while at her office and also at our home. Is this a common occurrence on this model Volvo? Any suggestions as to how to remedy this issue? The vehicle has approximately 45k miles. Thanks in advance for your insight. [email protected]

Sounds like you put the wrong kind of fluid in there.

Power steering squeal

You should not turn power steering to extreme locks and hold them there constantly. The squealing is the noise the power steering unit is screaming," You are killing me".

My 2005 acura tl has a weird sound when its really cold outside. Its worse when your turn the car.

Hi:
If you are getting a growling sound, when it is cooler out side, and it happens when you are moving the steering wheel, then definitely consider your power steering pump as a suspect. Check to make sure that it is full of fluid. If the noise occurs when the wheel is moved, it isn't a safety factor, but won't get any better.

My car has a whining noise in the power steering and sometimes gets extremely loud. We checked to see if it needed powering steering fluid and it was full. Could the power steering be going out and is this...

this noise is caused by a defective power steering pump, it is only covered if u have an extended warranty that covers other than the "powertrain" powertrain covered parts are engine, transmission and differential.
