Remove and Replace front engine seal/gasket

1996 Audi A6 V6 engine. I need HELP with removing the front main seal of the engine. I'm stuck at the Crankshaft 12 point 15/16 sprocket with 2 little teeth's on each side of it. This sprocket goes into the timing gear and rotates the crankshaft. How do I get access to remove this front main seal/gasket? PLEASE THANKS..

How to replace rear main seal on an 2006 audi a6 sline?

the first thing is to determine exactly where the oil is coming from. If it is a sump gasket at the rear main area it will be easier to do that than pulling the transmission and flywheel to do it (if it is not the main seal) Next is it gear oil - reddish or if manual smells different to engine oil. IT auto and is reddish it may be an oil cooler line or a front seal in the torque converter. I am saying that if it is a rear main seal it will be a big job so make sure before you get involved.

Well I guess you know the engine is overheating, this means death to the engine if you are driving it this way. Seek out a repair shop and have the problem diagnosed and hope you haven't blown out the engine head gaskets

Light smoke is coming from under the hood can u tell me what i should do and is it safe to drive for now

I don't know which engine you have but if it's a V6 it's very likely the valve cover gaskets - they tend to get brittle and allow oil leakage. If the smoke is from the sides of the engine that's likely the cause. If it's from the rear it's probably a half-moon seal.

it is VERY unlikely that a seven year old car would need that much done to it, unless it had 200,000 or more miles on it. New oil should be the color of honey, not dark brown. That's the easy check.
