Check engine light on. "set timing mode" on information hub. car starts, idles fine. while in drive, car will die. sometimes will drive but dies at stop sign/light. may die while driving, usually between 30-45 mph while giving it gas to speed up.
Depending on the trouble codes, it may be the ECM. (computer)
You can have the car scanned for codes or attempt it yourself.
The "set timing mode" is the section of the computer program that you access to change the base timing. It should not show up on the display unless you access it.
The battery drain and the display could be related or separate problems.
I would look for the battery drain first.
stephan, thank you for your advice. i checked the ground wire and it is good. there must be something i am not able to test that is draining the battery. the code has not cleared and i am under the impression that once the battery is disconnected the codes should be cleared from the display. once the vehicle is restarted then it may come back. in this case, once i put a new battery in the code was still on the display. OFF TO THE SHOP. THANKS AGAIN.
I am 99.9% sure your car is OBDII. Vehicles with OBDII systems store codes until you clear them with a scanner. Disconnecting the battery will not clear.
1994-1995 was when cars sold in the USA were switched to OBDII so yours could be either way.
Cadillac cars are different in that they allow some on-board diagnostics thru the display, but I think the codes stay until they are cleared.
That "set timing" display is not supposed to be there, so I am curious to see what the shop comes up with.
I think the display message and the draining battery are different problems.

Before you replace the fuel pump you need to check the codes for the pcm.If you have any crank sensor codes. They will be p0385 and po335.The problem is the crank shaft position sensors. You need to replace them both. There is also a bulletin out for these and a few other codes and the fix is to have the powertrain control module(pcm) reprogrammed. This can only be done at the dealership. It only takes about a 1/2 hr.Next time it won`t start what you need to do is disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds and then reconnect it and then if it starts you need to get the pcm programmed. The bulletin number is 04-06-04-060.If the reprogramming takes care of the problem you don`t need to replace the crank sensors. There is also a bulletin for these sensors but the vehicle will usually die will driving or when you come to a stop.Which you also seem to be having a problem with.So you might have 2 different problems.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Could also be fuel pump. These are quite easy to change as there is an access hole in the trunk.....

Thank you Stephen......as this model is an OBD I, i used a jumper key to access the codes. the 'set timing mode' is the only thing that displays.
i also forgot to mention that the battery is drained after 2 days of sittling. it is a new battery and alternator was cleaned and checked both on and off the vehicle-works fine.
