That does sound strange but when a computer is bad no codes will be showing up and the engine will still run but not the greatest
Have the PCM checked out

It sounds lke you need to do a tune up. Sometimes when a vehicle sits for long periods the plug wires can weather crack. Run the car at night and watch for arcing on the plug wires

coil pack is bad about 200 to 300 easy to fix just by the one for the front of the engine(closest to the front of the vehicle)

I don't think you really understand what this fault code means, it means that likely all the engine cylinders are misfiring at random no set pattern, not any particular cylinder. I would start with checking for engine vacuum leaks like the intake manifold gasket. that is all I can say since you provided no make, model or year and engine type and size information.

The 1997 V8 engine in the car is fitted with coil packs which are quite visible on the top of the engine. These need to be replaced when they eventually fail as is common.

Cylinder misfire 8
Are you loosing engine coolant.In you have a Northstar the head bolts rip out of the block and cause a coolant leak to the cylinder.Pull that spark plug and see if it has a large white buildup on the plug. If it does you probably need a $4500.00 repair

Usually, if you only have 1 cylinder misfiring, you have either a bad spark plug or bad spark plug wire. If you replace the cylinder 6 spark plug and still have a misfire condition, replace your spark plug wires. If replacing the plug and wires doesn't fix the problem, replace the ignition coil.

Sounds like a head gasket leak. I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville Limo with the Northstar 4.6L engine. I had a misfire on cylinder 1 that seemed to go away after I added Bar's Leaks Head Gasket Repair for about $30 at Advance Auto and the leak went away. Be sure to get the Head Gasket repair that can be added to regular antifreeze without draining it out and having to add to pure water.

Also, check the code for the associated problem If there is a particular cylinder missing, it might be being caused by the antifreeze leaking into the cylinder on that cylinder that is missing.

Where is starter location on 1999 deville 4.6ltr northstar and 4.9ltr
The starter on the 4.6 Northstar engine is in the middle of the engine between the cylinder heads. On the 4,9 ltr the starter is located below L/S cylinder rear near oil pan. Hope this helps
