Car slips out of gear after the engine warms up

1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Sl 4: My daughter's car has started slipping out of gear when the engine gets warmed up. We're pretty sure it's the transmission but would like to know if this is something that can be repaired without replacing the whole tranny. We'd also like to get a ball park of what it's going to cost to fix it.

Thanks!

It's an automatic; when you're driving down the road it will just slip out and when you push on the gas there's no power like it's in neutral....

I had the same problem. They rebuilt my trans and 5 days later it started again. not sure if I paid 1700.00 for nothing.

Ok this is an internal transmission problem, the 1st thing to do is check the fluid level in the trans, do this only on a HOT transmission otherwise you will overfill the trans and damage it more, if the fluid is full and clean then the trans will need to be torn down, but this does sound like a low fluid level problem.

PLEASE RATE THIS SOLUTION, THANKS

Yes but don't assume the trans isn't low on fluid, also when you flush the trans the filter is not changed, if that fluid filter is getting clogged it will starve the trans for pressure and it will as you say slip out of gear, I don't do flushes unless the filter is changed for this vary reason.

What makes the fuel pump not kick on on a 92 Oldsmobile Cutlass

There is a red wire close to the battery in the front. It's not connected to anything. Apply positive voltage and that will run your pump for testing purposes.

On cold start up in the morning the transmission will not come out of 1st gear for a very long time! 1989 cutlass supreme sl 2.8

With a transmission there is not a lot you can do at home. Most problems are the fluid level.Start the car and fully warm it up.Move the gear selector through all the gears a few times and end in neutral.H/brake on.Now, with engine still running and in neutral, check the fluid level by removing the transmission dipstick.Clean it and reinsert it and recheck. If it is low,add some fluid through the dipstick tube.Slowly or it will run back out.I hope this helps you and this is about all you can check at home.
