I have a 2007 Kia Spectra with manual door latch on the drivers side. It won't open the door. The handle does pull the linkage wire, so the problem must be on the latch itself, but I can't see that side of the linkage wire. How do I get to it?
My 2006 Rio cinco broke the door latch cable and I looked on line and it costs a lot for just one cable. So, I decided to tackle it and only cost me less than $5.00 You need sleeves,a big and small crimper, Dremel with disc cutting wheel and some concentration and thinking ahead, good luck. A 1/16 in. Cable $.47 a ft at Home Depot. I hate it when car makers do this kind a thing. Now I have to brainstorm on my Dodge RamPromaster tire winch. Which it doesn't come with the van including the jack or spare tire

Well you must take off the inside of your door, the door panel. look for the screw holes and unscrew it.

Hello, I think I know your problem and I can help. The rods are attached with little plastic fasteners that "swing away" to release the rods. I am sending you a picture of a typical fastener, if you look at it you will see a square channel with one side open. The open part is where you unsnap it. It's a tight squeeze but you can reach in and unsnap the connectors to free the latch, then just remove the bolts holding the latch to the door. When you go to put it all back together, I find it's easier to unbolt the outside door handle and push everything up and out the hole to give room to connect the fasteners. Once everything is connected just slip it all down and bolt the latch to the door and bolt the outside handle back. I hope this helps you with your problem, if not feel free to ask anything else that might help, good luck.

Cable going into the front mechnism as broken at the ie down point, it was simply re-attached.

Try spraying some lubricant into the latch and handle assembly and pull it back and forth to work it in.. You may want to remove the rear trim to get better access to the internals of the latch cable....
Testimonial: "Did it and now works like new! Thanks a lot!"

There isn't a book or manual detailed enough to show you the inner workings of this lock mechanism. You will more than likely end up damaging the door panel and the mechanism to get the door open. You could go to a junk yard and get a used latch, see how it works, and then jimmy yours open. Or you could buy a new one and do the same thing. Either way the door panel has to come off with the door open and the latch will probably be damaged. There is a little spring that comes off or breaks in the latch and causes exactly what you are describing. There could be other issues as well but it definately needs the latch replaced.
