I cross-threaded a spark plug on my 1.8L Engine (93 Subaru Loyale). Not it is spitting oil from the plug. Can I use a tap and die set to re-thread the port-hole and replace the plug?

SOURCE: Subaru Engine Vibration

I'd suspect a vacuum leak in the inlet manifold, check to see if any vacuum lines might have fallen off. This can cause a lean misfire at idle, but often it's not enough of a leak to make it lean enough to misfire at higher rpm. If a leak is not obvious, check if it is a leak by buying a can of engine start (or even CRC will do) and spray it all around the inlet manifold. If the idle smooths out while you're spraying then then goes rough again, it is a leak. By spraying in specific areas you can narrow down the area of the manifold or gasket that is leaking.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: subaru loyale wagon replacing the timing belt

Get a proper manual like Haynes (amazon, parts store, Haynes.com).  You should not have to take either main pullel or cam pulley off to change timeing belt,  you DO want a new tensioner and and new idler pulley (if there is one).  Failure to replace these may result in a later failure that wipes out the blet, and possibly the motor (if it is an interference motor).
If you can change the oil pump from working on the front side of the motor, you are either a magician or a contortionist;!) and I need you to help me work on my car;~)    It's pretty rare for an oil pump to go bad before 400K km or 300K miles  ... the bloddy things are in a constant bath of oil!

SOURCE: eng. shakes spits/sputters oil in spark plugs

I just had this fixed on my suby today. The cause is that the spark plugs, go through the valve covers on the 2.5 l .When the o rings in the cover go, the result is oil in the spark plugs. The cost of the repair in Canada was about $500 including diagnostics as well as new plugs and wires About 1.5 hours labor and new seals and gaskets. It now runs like new. This is a common problem for this subaru engine as well as for the dodge neon.

I have a 2008 saturn astra. One of my cylinder has no thread to keep my spark plug down. What can I use to make threads?

Your local part store should carry a spark plug hole repair kit. Just make sure you keep the metal chips that get made from cutting the new threads out of the engine. Get some axle grease and coat the tap so that the chips will stick to it instead of falling down into the engine.

My number 2 spark plug keep coming out

Either wrong plug, threads worn out if you are very lucky, but suspect been overtightened thread gone in head.So itthe garage you need, they should rethread for not to much.It is done with a tap and die set, which you could buy,but being where it is you could not stop metal going into engine. LUCL

My 2006 ford explore number seven plug is stuck hoe do I remove it

I would first spray some penetrating oil around plug. Not too much though. Depending on why plug is stuck will determine the outcome. Being very careful, remove the plug. If it was cross threaded in, you will have to tap the threads and use a repair kit for spark plugs. It will come with neccessary parts to repair. If plug was just rusted in, chase the threads in the head where the plug goes in and use compressed air to remove any filings from cylinder.

Need to replace sparkplugs on 2002 ford escape

well replace spark plugs is not a hard job, when replacing spark plugs, good time to replace plug wires also.you need to replace one spark plug at a time so you wont mix up firing order. you need a spark socket, torque wrench, 3/8 ratchet wrench, 3/8 short and long extensions, you need a spark plug gap gauge.spark plug gap for 2.0 engine 0.051 the 3.0 engine spark plug gap is 0.052 - 0.056. just follow spark plug wires they will lead you to the spark plugs.warning wait until engine cool down first because removing spark plugs from hot engine could damaged the aluminum heads, use compressed to blow away debris before removing spark plugs keep debris falling into the cylinders.wear safety glasses if you use compress air and use small amount anti seize compound to the spark plug threads.good idea slip a short length rubber hose over the end of spark plug to use as a tool thread it into place.reason i use piece vacuum hose it will grip the spark plug enough to turn it, but will start to slip if the plug begin to cross thread.when installing spark plug, it should turn at least few times if spark plug start tighten before 1/4 turn thread cross threading need to back off start over dont keep turning you will stripped spark plugs threads in the head also damage spark plug threads, so be careful, good luck with job.

Crankshaft pulley bolt worked its way out of end of crankshaft. Car still ran but no oil pressure. Is it possible that it was stripped when oil pump was replaced or is it more likely it was not torqued...

Either or are possible. This should be done professionally but if u want to check the threads, Get the exact bolt size including thread size (specs should be on new part, get from OEM) Try hand threading it into the crank (GENTLY) use a ratchet to feel for a stripped thread. You can do the same with a tap from a tap & die set. If is well, use threadlock on the new hardware threads. DONT FORCE IT, IF IT'S NOT STRIPPED TOURQUE TO SPEC, IF IT'S STRIPPED IT'S STRIPPED. Good luck

Is there any way to repair a cross-threaded spark plug cylinder #8 in a 1999 Navigator without taking the body off? If so,how?

If you have sufficient room you can. Get a thread tap from a parts store (NAPA etc) with the exact thread of your plugs. Put a little motor oil on the tap and slowly thread it in. Thread it in a full turn, the back out 1/2 turn. Then in a full turn and back out 1/2 turn and so on. This may repair your thread without having to drill it our, put in a sleeve and re-tap it. Lastly, when you put in new plugs, always use 'No Seize on the threads and only tighten to snug. They aren't holding the car together.
Good luck.

Oil leaking into sparkplug chamber

thread dammaged in head causing spark pug to come loose can fit heli coil to fix thread in head so spark plug wont come loose and leak oil into tube. other places oil can come from to cover plug in oil
remove rocker cover then remove spark plug tube they are screwed into head and clean thread of tube and apply sealant loctite to thread refit to head and may pay to replace seal for top of spark plug tube that is in rocker cover
one of these or both can leak, if tube is tight in head it may not be leaking the top seal is

Multiple cylinder misfire

Carefully inspect the threads it sounds as if you have a crossthreaded hole that isn't allowing the plug to full seat. You'll need to get the proper size threading die and very carefully recut the threads. Best done in a shop as if anything falls into the cylinder your looking at very expensive repairs. It happens quite frequently with aluminium blocks and needs to be fixed as a spark plug popping out lets hot fuel dump into the engine compartment. Here is a description of such a tool at toolmonger.

It can happen to the best of us: one moment of inattention results in a cross-threaded spark plug hole. You can either install a helicoil and hope for the best, or send it out to have the whole shebang re-tapped. Now you have another option. The Back-Tap can fix that cross-threaded hole from the inside — without pulling the head.
The Back-Tap is a tap with expandable threads and a mandrel to catch errant metal shards. Apply a dab of grease to the mandrel, then place the device in the hole past the damaged threads. As you back it out, the cutters expand out to engage the undamaged threads, then gently reshape the damaged ones. The greased mandrel keeps metal filings from ending up in the cylinder.
The result: a task that could potentially take days and cost hundreds of dollars is done in minutes for less than a hundred bucks.
MAC offers a three-piece kit that includes a 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm Back-Tap for $90. You can buy Individual taps from various sources for about $50 each.

Bolt on timing belt tension thing is stripped on 93 escort.

If the blots threads are gone then probably the threads in the hole it goes into are gone also. You need to get a thread tap to run into the hole to create new threads and then get a replacement bolt to install into the newly tapped threads. Good luck. You can buy a good tap and die set that will have the thread tappers you will need to so this.

I overheated my 93 Loyale and the dealer code pull (check engine light) came back with codes 21 Temp sensor, Code 13 and 11 Crank angle sensor. Where is the crank angle sensor, how do I test it, and could...

Crank angle sensor is usually on the flywheel. You should be able to see wiring and plug coming out of the bell housing. You can check it for continuity, or put a scope on it and look for pulses. I would not think it would be bothered by overheating .

Temp sensor is on the block - probably near the radiator hose. It's threaded into the block. Again, shouldn't have been affected by overheating.
