Im struggling to get any info on my 1992 BMW 320i, the car is a beauty and drives like a dream, except for a few age related eccentricities. Like a rattle on the front right hand brakes which I think is a missing brake clip. The other problem that worries me is a scaping noise sounds like its coming from the aircon motor area, sounds like leaves are caught in something that is spinning. It comes and goes....mostly when I just start driving. Someone told me this make and model is rare, the guy I bought it from said she had a 1.8 engine and not a 2litre as expected could this be true?
Hi JoJoker,
If it's a 4 cylinder engine---it has a 1.8 liter engine.
the 6 cylinder is a 2.0 liter engine. What worries me about the guy who sold it to you, did he change the badge(318i to 320i) or did he change out the engine? And did you pay for the 4 cyl. model or the 6 cyl. engine?
Depending on what country you are in it could be a rare model, In Netherlands/Belgium/Germany it's a common model.
About the scaping noise.... I have no idea what it could be, I hope you'll find what it is soon.
I don't understand what you mean with the right front handbrakes?
Handbrake only locks the rearwheels, not the front? Now when I come to think of it...that sound originates from the front right too, same as the brake problem...maybe the brakepad clinches to the brakedisc sometimes? that would give a scaping sound..
plz le me know how it works out ok?
Thanks and good luck with the car, greetings Gilbert.
Go to pdftown.com. They have a BMW 3 series service manual. Very good manual. I use it all the time.
This is the link for the manual. It is a large file so it will take a while, but it is free. http://pdftown.com/search/node/BMW+3+Series+E36+wiring
