2000 pontiac montana hesitates on starting

I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana that runs great and always starts but it is hesitant to start. I have to hold the key anywhere from 1-5 seconds and listen for it to start and then release the key. If it's a long start, I can smell gas fumes for a minute after it starts. Is this a clogged fuel filter issue do you think?

Sounds like a leaky fuel line somewhere and the pressure isn't strong enough to go through the fuel pressure regulator. Try to locate fuel leak by smell.

SOURCE: Van won't start

There is a port on your fuel rail,Its like a tire valve push on it a see if fuel is coming out.If it isn't you will need to replace fuel filter first, If you still don't have pressure you are going to have to replace fuel pump.If you can hear the pump it doesn't mean that it is working. It does mean you have elec to it.you need at least 35lbs pressure to fire injectors. You will need to check for spark at spark plugs to.after these test repost and we can solve this problem

2000 Pontiac Montana not starting

Disconnect one of the battery cables for 5 min. Reattach it and tighten manually. This resets the ECM and possibly will allow starting. Disconnect a plug wire and get someone into the drivers seat and attempt to start. Hold plug wire close to spark plug and see if there's a spark. If no spark, either the battery is bad or COIL.

Car starts hesitating and jerking

I suspect the fuel level sensor is wrong and you are really starting to run out of gas. The other reason would be a broken tank baffle that keeps fuel around the inlet to the electric fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

My 2000 pontiac montana will start up then immediately die, if i give it gas to try and keep it running it sounds like it backfires through the fuel system

I smell a bad fuel pump.. Easiest way to check this is have someone turn the key but not actually start the car and you stand near the tank to listen for the humming sound a pump usually makes as it pressurizes the system. If you hear the humming sound then check the pumps PSI and see if it holds. Good luck

First with your incorrect fuel reading, you may need to have your fuel level sending unit replaced. Next if your vehicle otherwise runs fine when cold, no sputtering or hesitation if going uphill then I would suggest that your check your vehicle's air intake/induction system Mainly your air filter to see if it is clogged up which would impede air flow into your combustion chamber causing poor throttle response or suffication (not having enough oxygen for your fuel/air mixture to burn. Next I would have a thorough check performed on the emissions systems, also including your o2 sensor and possibly even your catalytic convertor and exhaust system. Start with that and let me know what your results are and I can advise you further if problems persist or worsen.

2000 Pontiac Montana hood won't open

Many times if you pull on the release and have someone give a sharp "bounce" on the leading edge of the hood it will get the latch to work. If you get it open, make sure you spray the mechanism with some wd40 to free it up.
