I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana that runs great and always starts but it is hesitant to start. I have to hold the key anywhere from 1-5 seconds and listen for it to start and then release the key. If it's a long start, I can smell gas fumes for a minute after it starts. Is this a clogged fuel filter issue do you think?

might be the fuel pump. should sound like an electric motor running, whirring sound. like a very quiet dough mixer.
SOURCE: can i start montana without key
you can but I dont recomend it,the vehicle is too new and your steering wont work is you did get it started.Find a lock smith or take the number inside your glove box to the dealer and they can make you a new key,or use the VIN #

There is a port on your fuel rail,Its like a tire valve push on it a see if fuel is coming out.If it isn't you will need to replace fuel filter first, If you still don't have pressure you are going to have to replace fuel pump.If you can hear the pump it doesn't mean that it is working. It does mean you have elec to it.you need at least 35lbs pressure to fire injectors. You will need to check for spark at spark plugs to.after these test repost and we can solve this problem
SOURCE: Need help locating TEV (AC problem)
It does not have one,it has a orifice tube, and it is located right behind the cruse control servo,on the fend well,it is where the two lines come together.Remove the nut,it is in there, where the line is swelled. If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.
