Probably broke your U-Joints on your driveshaft, preventing the rear wheels from turning. Your driveshaft might have disengaged from your differential too. check underneath concentrating on the driveshaft and differential

SOURCE: while driving truck makes a humming sound in drive now no reverse

If you have no reverse then yes it needs to be rebuilt. as far as the whining it could be in one of the differentials. or in trans? just depends on where you hear it

SOURCE: 1996 suburban makes grinding noise in 2 wheel drive

sounds like the clip on the rear output shaft its probably broke. do this by removing the rear driveshaft, and the tail of the transfer case, there are 4 bolts holding it in place. then grab the output shaft and see if it has any front to back movement. if so pull it all the way to the rear and you should see a groove at the front part of the shaft where the clip goes. Then you should find the pieces fo the clip in the tail housing. One person said he found the replacement clip at a local tranny shop. I am calling the dealership parts counter for a new clip for my 97 Tahoe tomorrow. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: my 1988 chevy silverado blows the heater/ac fuse when engaging 4w

There is an electric actuator on the front axle that engages 4WD. This part commonly fails resulting in no 4WD. Unhook the electrical connector to this part and see if heater still blows fuses. If It does not blow the fuse, the problem is in the actuator. If it still blows the fuse then it could be in the wiring. Buy a repair manual and trace the wiring schematics.

96 explorer disengages 4wh low but does not engage 2wheel

Does it shift to 4wd high range ? If so then shift to 2wd . What is going on here is the transfer case motor is stopping due to the motor position sensor has gone bad which means that you replace the transfer case motor assembly. But if you wish to make it a 2wd for awhile then remove motor and manually turn shaft . This can be done by raising and supporting rear axle truck in park remove motor turn shaft slowly with pliers and rotating the play in drive shaft. There are stamped markings on back of case showing gear positions..

Clanking noise coming from Allison Transmission on a 2001 Chrevrolet Silverado 8.1 Liter engine

this does sound like theres a loose line tapping the engine/frame,during warm up the engine idles faster which could make it vibrate faster causing the the clanking or tapping noise,if this has started after trans fluid change, then check the lines running from the trani to radiator sometimes the service person might bang into something causing plastic clips that hold the lines to break, try getting under it and have someone start the truck and listen to see where it's coming from also hold the lines & see if the noise stops, the service guy could have unbolted something & never put the bolt back causing the clank ex.line may have a clip holding it thats bolted to the trani pan ?good luck

4 wheel drive lights flashes but then returns to 2wheel drive -- some time it will lock in 4w low but both 4w hi and 4w low lights are on --- have new tccm module.

It is the shift motor for the 4wheel drive - only problem is that a shop has to program the new shift motor to the blazer or it will keep doing the same thing

My 99 Sierra makes a loud clunk when I begin driving. Sometimes it makes it when I turn too. Machanic said it wasn't ujoints. He thought it was coming from the transfer case. He said it didn't make the...

The u joint connect to a yoke on the front of the drive shaft. Did the mechcanic check that for any play for a brass bearing is surrounding that slip yoke into the transmission you know. If its worn an not replaced the transmission end housing will eventualy crack

Noise in Reverse

Transfer case would only be if you are in 4 wheel drive. this sounds like a rear end or u joint issues. Get under the truck and grab the drive line, if you are able to turn it more then a 1/4 inch each way bad u joints. If not then check the rear end.

Shifting into 4 wheel drive

For 4W Hi either be stopped or moving at a slow rate of speed (<20 MPH) and move your 4WD selector to the 4 Wheel Hi position.

For 4W Lo stop and move the selector from 2W Hi to 4W Hi then push down on the selector and move through N into 4W Lo.
