Brake lights and rear deck light do not work on 1991 Lexus ls400. I checked all fuses, bulbs, and Brake switch and they are fine. Help?

Brake light switch was replaced and didn't solve problem. Also the brake lock out system works fine. All other car light work including the tail lights which are also the brake lights when brake pedal pressed.

Have you probed the tail/brake lamp socket to see if power is there or you just assume it is? also make sure the ground is good for the brake lights Do that if not done already and let me know.

Hi Dennis, I checked the power of the tail/brake lights. I have voltage when the tail lights are on only. The voltage does not increase when the brakes are pressed. How do you check the ground? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much

SOURCE: my brake lights do not work tried replacing fuse

Is the brake light switch hooked up. The wire can be broken near the switch and the switch can fail too. do the turn signals and 4 way flashers work? Course if you have yellow turns then that test doesn't prove anything, The grong to the tailights can fail it's near the trunk latch under the trim, Wire can be broken putting heavy objects in the truck. Does the high mount brake light work? The bulbs in them don't last long the harness to the lights in the trunk lid get in troble and fail too. The light out module has more than one power source and all three have to be good for the brake lights to work does the dash moniter turn on the warning light when you put the brake on with the key on? If it does and the lights don't work the three circuits are good but if the warning doesn't come on and the lights still don't work then your still looking for a blown fuse. even the cig. light fuse has to be good, Check all the fuses with a test light as some blown fuses can look good and be bad.

SOURCE: 1991 Lexus ES250 Rear Brake Lights

first of all the brake lights are always in the rear only!!. take the light bulb out and while some one is appling the brake pedal check to see if yo have power at only one terminal of the socket, then release the brake pedal and make sure yu dont have power at the same terminal , now if you had poer in one of the terminal then you have to replace the socket for the brake light bulbs.

look under the dash board right at the brake pedal switc where the brake light switch is located and make sure that the wires are not broken, you can also do a quick check by just disconnecting the brake light seitch and then jump the terminal off of the brake switch and you should have light if the light works this way then you have to replace the brake light seitch

SOURCE: brake lights and rear deck light do not work.

Check the brake light switch under the dash near the top of the brake pedal, the button might be stuck in, or the switch is bad.

Having problems with shift button on 91 Lexus LS400 it gets stuck on Park. I press on break no response.

Could be a bad brake light switch or the solenoid itself or wiring. See if brake lights work. If they don't then check brake light fuse, if thats ok then check at the brake switch for power or jump the two wire plug lights should light and shifter work unless solenoid bad. Good luck

My 1991 Lexas LS400: All of the dash icons light up and radio goes on/off (at the same time) when applying the brake and/or while the `car has stopped. Had new battery checked, the battery is good....

I've seen this before, the problem ended up being the brake light bulb lead contacts touching each other on the dual filament bulbs allowing back feed voltage to travel through the park/dimmer switch circuit causing the lights to activate while pressing the brake pedal. I would pull all the brake light bulbs out and look at the back of each one, if you see nothing unusual, I would still replace them all only because it could be internal to the bulbs as well. Let me know if this fixes your problem.
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~

I have a 1996 Lexus LS400 and my is that when car is on and i put my foot on the brake pedal, after 2 seconds of holding brake to put car in gear a light comes on that tells me that a rear light is out....

short in wires harness and maybe the switch wires so if you know how to use a multimeter properly that you can check this out yourself the wires connectors. does your car tell which rear light is out if so then check them there first.

Check the connection at the brake light switch for power comming out to the barke lights, try feeding power to the brake lights manualy using a jumper wire from your fuse box or battery, unplug the wire from the switch and put power to the harness if everything is OK the brake lights will work, then you need a new switch.
