Starts but then it shuts off

97 olds achieva sl - it will start but then it shuts off like there is getting no fuel. Is there a reset button or a collisio switch. Her boyfriend installed a remote starter and doesn't always work could that cause the problem

    starts then stalls

starts then it won't keep running. Could it be a sensor?

I am going through the same issue with my daughter's 97 Achieva.. and it is driving me crazy. I had to change the ignition/passlock assembly and the problem keeps coming back. Took to the dealership, they replaced the dash cluster, yet the problem still comes back after a few weeks. Seems to have coincided with the "ETS" light appearing on the dash, when the problem first occured and then again now with the new cluster. This security system in the car is a JOKE! HELP!!!

Yes it probably could if not hooked up properly. Did it run good before & immediately after the install or has this been kind of ongoing since remote starter was installed?

You just want to know what to do, not complicated **** about what might be causing it or expensive repairs that won't solve it or won't last. If "security" blinks on the dash it's the screwed up passlock security system causing it not to start or start but quickly die.
When the car won't start or quits because of passlock security system glitches "security" blinks on the dash. Don't try again until it stops blinking (about 10 seconds). You get 3 tries in succession before it locks up (thinks a theft is in progress). If that happens, you'll have to wait about ten minutes for it to stop blinking. After the long wait you'll get another 3 tries only waiting 10 seconds for "security" to stop blinking after the first two tries. Don't ever try to start with "security" blinking.
Good luck!

Make sure those 3 wires on the passlock sensor are good. That sensor is on the lock cylinder on the right side of the steering column. You may want to check the wires on the ignition switch also.(green,black).But I would look at the sensor 1st since that is where they hook up those remote starters as far as I know.

Car wont start without a jump all lights on dash are on it starts then dies right away on 97 olds achieva

Seems you may have more than one problem. A few questions you must answer first. If you have to jump it to start it,then your battery is dead are you have a draw draining the battery. Now if it dies right away look at your security light and see if it is on. Probably your security system is thinking someone stole the battery and shuts the fuel system down. Change the battery and Google the reset security system on 1997 Olds Achieva and you probably be set to go

Starter 97 Oldsmobile achieva

I doubt it.
If the engine is cranking, the starter is working.
If the engine will not start, you need to know if you have spark at the plugs, fuel pressure at the injectors, and normal compression.

Where is the radio fuse in a 1995 OLDS ACHIEVA?

In the underside of the dash, under the steering wheel (a bit left of where the column meets the dash). It should have a label saying "FUSES". You press it, than pull it open.

Engine light stays on a 97 olds achieva sl

Engine light stays on, low coolant light stays on , recently had a plastic housing replaced that was leaking, it was linked to thermostat, tranmission coolant, heater ect. Had the thermostat replaced also. Level of coolant is fine, does't overheat anymore, but now the starter wants to spin a couple of times and then it starts. The car has no rust, would like to hang on to it

1997 oldsmobile achieva sl

Do you remember the last time the fuel filter was change? If you don't, do that first, it could be pluged. If that don't work or is not an issue, have a fuel pressure test done to see if fuel pump is weak, and ready to go out, or already has.
