If the code will not clear then there is a problem, we call this a hard fault and it turns the light back on and reset the code as sun as you start the engine up or in some cases turn the key to run.
P1700 - Transmission Indeterminate Failure (Failed to Neutral) You will need a ****** shop to look into this as the code can mean many different things.

SOURCE: Transmission Service Required message

They are correct as to the Location of the Sensor and, It would be a Time Consuming and Expensive Repair But, If you are not getting the Red Caution Light I would have the Tranny Flushed and Filled and see if it is not Just Buildup on the Sensor. It could actually Release itself. If not you will eventually have to get a Rebuild Buut, Try the Flush and Fill First.

SOURCE: Cadillac Deville 2000- Engine check light code P0741

If you like go ahead and let someone sell and replace your transmission but here is my suggestion! Check around and see if you can find a minor vacuum leak! This can simply be the big round hose that goes from the fuel injection to the power brake hub! This is normally a push in connector which has about a 1/2 inch hose clamped on it! If there is any kink or the connector is not in correctly a leak will occur and the transmission will shift rough as though you will be thrown out of the vehicle! Try unplugging this connector and plug it back in hard and straight and maybe you will be lucky and fix your problem. If the vacuum is correct your transmission will shift better than you have ever experienced!

My 2001 x5 evap & catalyst report not ready, I reset my MAF OBDII Code ~70 miles before checking it, but...

if you had reset the code[ or had a dead battery]you just cleared and reset all the vehicles evap / emissions systems it now has to recycle through to reset you wont have a check engine or mil unless computer finds a fault and on most vehicles it can be about 125 miles and usually the last to reset are the evap and the catalytic converter drive around and at around 125 mark go to an auto store and have vehicle scanned most offer this service for free or if you have one check your system for ready if not keep driving some more most states give you 10 days to retry so use that time to rack up miles -- and dont reset or clear codes before an inspection

95 sl500 check engine light reset and comes back on after it sits over night. any idea?

What code is it throwing ? Some codes are what are called two trip codes ! You clear the codes an start an drive the vehicle ,no check engine light . Park the vehicle over night an bam next time you start an drive the vehicle the check engine light comes back on .

??There are two types of DTC's, 1 trip DTC's and 2

trip DTC's

??A 1 trip DTC is for a condition that requires

immediate attention such as a catalyst damaging

misfire.

??A 2 Trip DTC is one that a condition must be found

during 2 consecutive trips such as an EGR fault.

??Most Monitors do not set a DTC and light the MIL

when a vehicle fails a test for the first time during a

DRIVE CYCLE. If a test is failed on a second

consecutive DRIVE CYCLE the MIL will light and a

DTC is stored in the vehicles powertrain control
module (PCM).

What is code p2610

"DTC P2610 is set if an internal ECM problem is detected.
1.With ignition OFF, remove both ECM connectors.
2.Wait at least one minute.
3. Replace the connectors making sure to completely seat and lock them.
4.Turn the ignition ON with the engine OFF, and clear the stored codes.Verify the MIL light turns OFF, and stays OFF. If the MIL light does not turn OFF, repeat the clear code command until it the MIL light remains OFF.
5.Turn OFF the ignition and leave it OFF for at least one minute.
6.Turn the ignition back ON with engine OFF and observe that the DTC does not reset.
If the DTC P2610 is still set, repeat Steps 1 through 6 one additional time. If Steps 1 through 6 still do not correct the DTC P2610, verify there is constant battery voltage to ECM Connector C1- terminal 77. (circuit 440 / orange wire) If battery voltage is not present on Connector C1- terminal 77, troubleshoot and repair the circuit."

Reset check engine light

On OBDII vehicles there's 2 ways to reset the MIL. A scan tool can clear the codes, but will also clear all of your monitors. If you have repaired the code, the computer will automatically turn the MIL off after 3 consecutive drive cycles the code monitor has passed. It could take a while as not all monitors are run every drive cycle. This is the best way to confirm a repair in my opinion.

What part do i need to repalce

Hi Cornejo:
The DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P0700 code is not the actual code that is of concern. The P0700 code is stored in the engine computer.

This code means that there is a code stored in the Transmission computer. The trans computer sends a message to the engine computer that there is a trans code stored. This lets the engine computer turn on the "check engine" light.

You need to have the transmission computer scaned for codes to find out whats going on. Most code readers do not read trans codes, you need to have a scan tool that is able to do this.
This could mean almost any thing. Most trans codes are eletrical related with the allison transmission.
Here is the diagnosis chart for the P0700. Again, this code only means a trans code is set in the TCM, not a actual failure code.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DTC P0700
Circuit Description
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicates that a related transmission DTC set in the transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) receives the TCM DTC information over the serial data circuit. The ECM turns ON the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the TCM sends a message over the serial data circuit requesting MIL illumination.

2_15_2012_1_58_02_pm.gif

Conditions for Clearing the DTC graphic
The control modul turns OFF the MIL after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
A scan tool can clear the code from TCM history. The TCM automatically clears the DTC from TCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without failure.

1. Verify power and ground supplies to the TCM when the vehicle is cold.

2. If OK, depending on ambient temperature. If ambient temperature is high and the problem will not show, remove the TCM and place it in a freezer for a couple of hours.
3. If the ambient temperature is low remove the TCM to a warm area for a couple of hours.
4. After sufficiently cold or warm, install the TCM and drive the vehicle immediately.
5. If the ambient temperature is low and the transmission now shifts or the ambient temperature is high and the transmission will not shift replace the TCM.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

What could be the reasons for the check engine light to come on and stay on?

if your engine is running different then before the check light came on. have your computer system checked for error codes. start there. or your owners manual. or a service manual at your local auto store.

Maintenance light stays on

First I'd say try taking the battery cable off the negative terminal to reset the computer.
Then what I would do is pull the codes from the computer. Autozone will read your codes for free! If the Check Engine Light (MIL) came on after you have already reset the ECU, the computer stored a code. Even if the MIL goes out, the code will remain stored in the computer.
It might be something as simple as an oxygen sensor, but the best way to do things is find out the code, then to try to clear it, if the problem persists then the CEL (check engine light) or maintenance light will simply come back on.
