GMC Envoy 1999. Have a strange problem. If the brakes are applied, only the passenger side brake light is activated . However, if I also turn on the passenger side turn signal and then apply the brakes, then the driver's side brake light works just fine. Also, not sure if this is normal, but when the turn signal is activated for either direction, only the brake light for the side opposite to the signal turns on.

theres usually a pressure switch behind the brake pedal, sometimes the plastic hex nut rattles loose and you have to retighten it.

I found the problem. Talking with a technician from the controller company, we determined that it was a fuse problem. I found that the fuse to the CHMSL was blown.

Does your high mount stop light work? If it doesn't, then it'll be the brake switch located just above your brake pedal.
If the light does work, then it should be the electronic flasher module that will be located under your dash near the steering column. It will be labeled. This controls your signals, but I believe your brake lights are also on the same bulb as your signals, so when this goes, it can affect your brake lights
SOURCE: tail lights work on both sides. turn signal and
check fuse to driver side turn signal lamp.check brake light bulb or replace bulb on driver side.also replace the front driver side turn signal bulb that is flashing fast.

Had a acquantice suggest that this could be caused by the steering column signal switch. Is this a good possible solution?
loud growling from the front passenger side when applying brakes
