2004 Jaguar XJR Shifter stuck in park position

04 Jaguar XJR stuck in park.

The brake lights are working. The shifter is stuck in the park position. The reverse light is on. The steering wheel is not locking, with or without the key in. The car will not start. The car will roll if pushed. I disconnected and then reconnected the battery to see if anything would reset (electronic). Also the key seems loose in between the off and start positions. Any ideas????? Thanks, [email protected]

will only go in reverse. shifter will move but car wont

The shifter cable is on the lift side of the transmission, make sure it is bolted to the trnsmission

04 mountaineer is stuck in park

If you are saying the shifter will not come out of park, the problem could be the brake light switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
If you disconnect the shifter from the transmission and the trans will not come out of park you may have broken the park gear.

2004 Volvo s60 awd t 'stuck in park'

Check your brake lights and see if they are working. The solenoid in the shifter is energized by you stepping on the brake. If your break lights do not work... your stuck in park. This can be caused by a bad brake light switch located above your brake pedal or.... a blown hazard / brake light fuse. Check them first.....

My 2004 s type is stuck in reverse\r\nthe gear

I am having the same problem with my 2004 XJ8. The shifter is in the park position but the reverse light is on. The car thinks it is reverse despite the shifter postion at park. I am unable to get it out of park position or start the engine.

2004 x-type jaguar stuck in park after tail light problem . Simple brake light replacement turned into a nightmare. Scared to have the car towed.Can,t afford to have a jaguar tech come out, We're screwed....

Check the brake light fuse. If you blew a fuse for a brake light, you won't have power to the shift interlock which allows you to move the shifter.

Car is stuck in Reverse

It sounds like a bad shift indicator switch on the shifter. Kind of a pain in the *SS to get to those console's get real brittle.

Car stuck in park 2000 jaguar

there is a solenoid on the shifter that is activated when you hit the brake pedal. This can be a bd solenoid or a faulty curcuit between the two. see if you hear a clicking noise when you hit the brake and try to shift?

Wont go out of park

Jack up one rear wheel, park brake off, to release the pressure on the drivetrain. This will release the gear shifter. Take care to chock the other wheels before releasing the park brake.

Gear locks when i park on even a slight incline

ALWAYS engage the Parking Brake BEFORE putting car into "Park". When you want to get out of "Park", put your foot on the brake pedal, move gear shifter into desired gear, THEN take down Parking Brake. If you get stuck (gear shifter doesn't move), then try the "rocking" method (recruit 1 or 2 folks to push your car from behind while you try to move gear shifter into desired gear). Good luck!

u will need to check and make sure the brake lights work, the shifter is tied to the brake light switch, if the brake lights don't work or the brake pedal is not pushed a gear shifter lock out is engaged, this is a Federally mandated safety feature.

HAVE SOMEONE GO BEHIND THE CAR AND CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON, IF THEY DON'T WORK THEN THERE IS NO POWER TO THE BRAKE PARK INTER-LOCK SOLENOID AND YOU CAN NOT DIS-ENGAGE PARK. IF THEY DON'T WORK CHECK THE FUSE, IF IT IS OK REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.
