Rough idle when warm

When the symptom 1st appeared, the engine would run smoothly on initial start-up. But if the engine were turned off when warm and then restarted, it would then run rough as if not all plugs were firing and I could smell unspent fuel. Lately, it will eventually run rough when the engine warms up without having to restart to create the symptom. Recently, I've also noticed the SID and odometer lights going off and on while driving. Have changed cap, rotor, plugs and wires...sense problem is in distributor coil.

Took the day off yesterday and drove out into the country to get a diagnostic run (only took a couple of highway miles before the symptom reoccurred). The previous owner admitted to not properly caring for the car so there were numerous codes. The codes have been cleared with the idea to return out there when the CE light comes back on. But with 70 or so miles for the return trip and stops & starts for errands run, it's still out. The codes btw, were P0171, P0605, P1172 & P1013 (143K miles). Also, the dash lights illuminate only while starting, but don't stay lit & haven't worked since we've had it (last Fall); now the SID and odometer are intermittent. Will drive it again today to hopefully flag a code. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

SOURCE: Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon 2000 wont restart when warm or after running

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5. I had a similiar problem. The car would always run cold. It would get hot and the engine would quit. It could be anywhere. One mile from start to 50 miles from start. Once it cooled down it would re-start but the cool down time was always different. Only difference for me was my car would crank, just not run. Replaced the crank position sensor ($60), no more problems! Good luck!

What would make my 2005 Escape run great now sudden just don't start and sound locked up

It's doing this because the computer is not getting a signal from a faulty temperature sending unit/sensor. It starts fine at initial startup, runs smoothly, when warmed the computer tells it to switch to normal run mode and it idles fine, when the temp sensor is sending the signal to switch. If it doesn't send this signal to switch, it must be faulty and the engine is being flooded with fuel, runs rough, won't idle right, want's to die, and is hard to restart because of the flooding condition.

You may have an old engine oil, why don't you have your car service and change oil and oil filter as well. Then if the problem still appears, then that's the time to start tracing where the problem really starts.
