1995 Chev S10 4.3L V6 rough idle and under power

Truck runs rough most of the time at idle and when cold, can lunge ahead when rolling to a stop. Sometimes notice a fluctuation in RPMs when climbing hill (3000 rpms). Seems to be worse when cold.

My 95 s10 pickup with 4.3 runs fine but idles rough at stops like it's going to stall. The "service engine soon" light has just recently gone on and might be related. The only thing I've done so far is put some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank yesterday. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

This make/model has a chronic problem with EGR clogging. If you have a dashboard indicator showing "check engine" most likely it is a trouble code indicating and EGR (exhaust gas recirculator) valve problem. Symptoms are rough idle, and surging and stalls.

What happens is sediments from the exaust manifold get sucked up into the valve when it opens, then stick in the valve and keep it from closing. When the valve is open when it should be closed, the engine runs very rough.

I removed my egr and then dislodged the sediment (pea-sized debris) and then re-installed the valve. Three days later, the same "check engine" and same rough idle. I must have did this at least three or four more times.

What I found that gave me a permanent solution was an aftermarket filter gasket that keeps debris from clogging. I don't remember the name of the product, but a search for "EGR filter gasket" may lead you to the product.

Install the gasket between the EGR and the exhaust manifold and you should be good to go. Note: on 1995 and newer models, disconnecting the EGR from the wiring harness (common on R&R) may require the computer to be reprogramed.

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.

I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

I have a 1997 dodge avenger es 2.5 liter here's

Check the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator for any sign of gas being sucked into the line. A failed regulator will let extra gas get into the engine. If it's okay, have the fuel pressure checked. That's sure a lot of gas, way too much for the engine. Good luck.

Have you tired the Idle Air Control Valve? When was the last time you did a tune-up with new Spark Plugs and spark plug wires? Make sure you use Motorcraft Platinum spark plugs if you want the best performance for your vehicle.

Car drives under power but stalls at stop light. Injectors replaced but did not fix problem. It has 140,000 miles on the 3.8 24 valve V6 engine.

Your idle air control valve has gone bad.  It is located on the throttle body and is normally held in with just a couple of screws.  The IAC does just as the name says and controls your idle.  You can pick a new one up from AutoZone for around $50.  Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.  Please rate my response and thanks for using FixYa!

MX-3 with V6 Manual transmission. Engine idle revving up and down

You should check your engine's AIR hoses that are connecting to the airbox. sometimes a simple airleak will be enough to alter your idle. Specially when its cold the car will already idle rough ( I know im canadian lol). So go check your air hoses ;)
