2005 CTS sunroof assembly - Wind deflector.

One side cracked and the sunroof will start to close then retracks. Can I remove the rivet from the other side and simply remove it? A mechanic informed me the assembly is one part and costs $550 and five hours to install.

What have you got to lose by trying it? I would think that the worst case scenario would be that you will need a $550 sunroof assembly if you remove the rivet and it doesn't work to solve the problem....

SOURCE: Sunroof

Open the shade cover to access the sunroof from inside the car. On each side of the sunroof (driver and passenger) there is a black accordian looking cosmetic molding, toward the back side of the sunroof (rear of the car) stick your finger behind it at the top and pull you will now be able to see a T25 (torx) screw you will need to slightly loosen it on each side of the car if they are not already loose then push up on the center rear of the sunroof. you may want to have someone outside of the car to tell you the proper height, when you have the proper hight set tighten the screws then replace the molding. You are done, no more noise!

2008 cts sunroof wind noise

Hi Gary,

Apparently there has been some 'alignment' issues with the sunroofs coming out of Cadillac. As noted in the attached thread, the dealer can perform an adjustment which eliminates (reduces) the windnoise.

Why won't my sunroof close all the way or set?

In many case this problem, not uncommon, is related to the retractable wind deflector that pops up when the roof opens and tucks away when it closes. A couple things to check....
First step up on a ladder or the passenger door sill and get a good look at the deflector itself. The mechanism is spring loaded and you should be able to easily push it down into its cubby and it should spring back up when you release it. Inspect closely for blockages by debris.
Second, inspect the track that the roof travels on for missing or loose fasteners (screws). These do come loose and even completely out. In which case the rooitself can get hung up on the protruding screw head or be blocked by a loose screw somewhere in its path.
The last item to inspect is the track and spring mechanism of the deflector for lubricant. There should be visible presence of grease on the tracks as well as the deflector hinge and spring points. If not this also is sufficient to stop the movement of the roof and or trigger the anti trap function. Apply a universal grease or white lithium grease is what I use. The motor of the roof is intentionally not very strong in order to prevent shattering the glass in instances exactly of this nature.
I've never seen any more significant issues with the sunroof operation or mechanics than these. In the event you ate unable to resolve with these tips you can manually close the roof while deciding your course of further action and stop the wind noise. That odds looking tool in your glove compartment is a T-wrench for turning the roof motor and gears for service. Simply remove your overhead light. First the clear lens, then the two screws you will see on either side of the bulb. This will drop your interior light cluster and clearly give you acccess to the center of the primary gear. Insert your wrench (which I believe is a Rover unique design) and gently turn until roof is tightly closed.
I couldn't give you any further advice without a personal inspection, hope this solves your issue. One word of caution, the sunroof glass is easily shattered. Do not apply any force to the glass panel.
Good luck!

Sunroof on 2003 jetta tdi won't close. it has power, and operates, but will always reopen, by itself, when it is almost closed. ???

There may be something obstructing the path. Possibly the wind deflector? It's also possible that the sunroof knob is out of sync with the sunroof itself. Try putting your key in the drivers door lock, turning and holding that position while the sunroof closes. (not sure which way you have to turn) You can also close it manually with a hand crank (which is actually an allen wrench)

03 Freelander sunroof wont close. One side looks like it is open tand the other side with the moving parts look closed. how do I fix this? Is there a way to take out the window?

Had a smiilar problem with my 2000 Freelander, the runners on the sunroof have plastice teeth which snap off, if you remove the plastic strips on the inside of the sunroof you can unscrew the glass take it out force the sunroof into the closed position and reattahch the sunroof, then never use it again

Sunroof not closing

My guess is the sunshades bind also. If not, check the wind deflector links. if the sunshades are binding, the guides need to be replaced, its a horrible design.
