IS THERE AN EAZY WAY TO FIX SUNROOF ON THE TOYOTA PREVIA ARE DO I REALLY HAVE TO REMOVE ALL THE HEAD LINER OPENS MANUELLY BUT DOESNT OPEN WITH THE SWITCH MOTOR RUNS AND EVERYTHING BUT DOESNT OPEN ARE CLOSE INLESS I DO IT MAUNELLY IF SOME ONE CAN GIVE ME INFO I WOULD APPRECIATE THANK YOU
This is a easy fix. but you need to find a sunroof track. used or new. i went with used because a new one is like 800 bucks at toyota. if you have to pull it out a used van you must unbolt the motor from the track to be able to slide the sunroof open. pull the headliner down and unbolt the four bolts on each side. unbolt the four bolt that hole the glass roof to the tracks. pull the track down and out threw the back door. if you have rear ac dont get scared. its not hard to unbolt from the roof. just watch where the bolts goand you will be fine. it took me less then two hours and i never done it before
Hello. My sunroof is stuck closed. The motor turns but nothing happens. I tried to remove the headliner, but i have to unbolt the screws that hold the plastic trac for the shade, which i can only do with the sunroof open. How can i get it open? Or is there any other way to remove the headliner, without breaking it? Thank you.
On a sunroof that is stuck shut. You need to try and open it manually. If it won't then something is jamed in the track. At that point don't try and force it. Used compressed air and blow the tracks out. Twigs and leave have a tendency of getting lodged. If that don't work try unbolting the motor from the sunroof then try to open it again manually. If it opens replace the motor. If it is still stuck then the cable inside the track is broken, so replace the track
The best thing is to unbolt the track motor(if you have rear ac unit use cation. (Do not let the ac unit hang down putting tension on the freon hoses that are connected to the unit. It could cause a leak in the ac system.) Remove the drive motor, this will allow the tracks to move freely. If it still will not move, check the exterior tracks( under the black plastic cover skirt son the roof). Make sure there are no twigs or debris lodged to keep it from moving(compressed air works great for this). If the track moves freely check the motor. Make sure the track engagement gear turns the same speed as the motor. If that checks out and the motor works properly and the glass roof moves freely, the next step is to inspect the track drive cable. I have seen only one cable strip out so that is a possibility.

I have the same problem. sounds like the gear slipped off a track or something? This happened a few years back, now that I have the van back I would like to fix. I think I will investigate the breakdown of the components first before pulling down the whole cieling panel. Something possibly simple if you can get to the workings of the thing,
Eric
