The 1986 winnebago has a chevy 454. It idles smooth and runs on the level ok but only misses going up hill or a slight grade at higher speeds.

It sounds like you have a vacuum leak or a carburetor problem. Check all hoses and the line going to the brake booster for cracks or leaks. Make sure the carb bolts are tight at the manifold. You can check for leaks using some carb cleaner. Spray around the base of carb while the engine is running, any leak will cause the engine to sputter when the spray hits it. You may want to look into rebuilding the carb or replace it. If its the original its a Quadrajet, they are not the easiest to rebuild but not impossible. If you rebuild it yourself, make sure to get the numbers off the carb so you can get the correct rebuild kit and accelerator pump. Plus you should replace the float when you rebuild since its 30 years old. A thorough cleaning of the carb is crucial before rebuilding. The fuel mixture screws have caps on them so they wont be altered after assembly from the factory. You'll have to remove those caps to remove these screws before cleaning. You can probably find some good info. on doing this at a good parts store. I hope this helps you.

Hi, its time for a ring set job in this vehicle. the blue smoke is a sign of major oil consumption due to bad piston rings. you also have faulty valve seals as well. this is deep engine repair and it will be costly.
If you cant do this job soon, be sure to watch the oil consumption by checking the level regularly and, monitor the oil pressure as well.

The mechanic should check the fuel lines or gas hose from the tank going to the carburetor and from carburetor going to the engine. and also check on the first or primary filter ,the secondary filter, the spray nozzle assembly and the carburetor . if there is a dirt it should be cleaned if there is a spare parts that is worn out it should be replace and if there is a corroded parts then clean it also .After it then also check if there is a loose connection of the hose then reconnect the connection of the fuel lines or gas hose should be tighten that it will not spill gas.But still don't forget to check the screws or the bleeder screws of the carburetor check if there is a dirt and if there is a worn out screw's or bleeder screws .if there is then clean it with a clean gas if there is a worn out replace it. the throttle should also be check if it is been stock there fore you have to repair it if worn out already then replace it.If the carburetor is dirty gas can't pass to the engine normally or some times no gas is going to the engine. That is why you should clean it or replace the worn out parts . But then you have also to check the gas that you are using to your car. If the gas is diluted or dirty then it can be the cause of the problem. Change the gas and buy or get a clean gas that is not diluted or dirty because sometimes dirty gas or fuel can give malfunctioning to the carburetor assembly.

I can't find anything on a motorhome application, but here is Dayco's chart for the serpentine belt on a 84-90 Surburban with a 454 engine.
