I had my mass air flow sensor replaced about 1 month ago and when the car is shifting gears it pulls some. I took it to a mechanic and checked the transmission and said that it needed to be replaced. If the mass air flow sensor isn't installed properly could it effect the transmission?

It has nothing to do with the transmission and how it shift. The MAS with multiple others, sends info to the ECM, which adjusts fuel, air, and spark advance accordingly depending on too rich, too lean, etc. ALso the mas usually has a arrow on it and cant really be installed wrong. What do you mean by "pulls some" ?

had same problem i would check the Idel Air Valve and also check all of your vaccum hose lines makeing sure there are no cracks or splits in rubber connectors if there is repair immediatelt because over time they start to dammage the internal parts fo the engine and if youve replace tps mass air etc. sounds like a vaccum hose problem

SOURCE: Mass Air Flow Sensor - 92 Buick Century

Remove it and clean with some carb cleaner and a Q tip. Be careful with it so you don't do any damage. 9 of 10 times this will get you running again! Since signal from there is variable low voltage, you cant really bypass it!

SOURCE: Need Mass Air Flow Sensor for my 1997 Buick LeSabre Custom

not unless you take it to autozone and have them put the scanner on it and clear the code which caused the light to come on. also they can tell you what the original issue was.

unfortunately it sounds like you just started to replace parts and honestly you could have already repaired the issue

SOURCE: transmission won't shift

what kind of car is this? how old is it,most trannys go because NOBODY seems to change the fluid .I would change it every 50k,after ten years of no new fluid . You could try changing it and add a bottle of Lucas trans slip fluid with it, I have used it with at least 4 differant vehecles with success. But check you trans kick down cable first ,if it broke the car will not shift,Located right with throttle cable, one on top and the other right under it .

Go to your local auto parts store and buy a MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CLEANER. then take the mass air flow sensor off and spay it down, wait for it to dry put it back in and connect the negative terminal on battery and start the car. You should notice a difference but if you don't and low on money but brake cleaner and find out which shift solenoid, take it out spay it down and plug it back in. Remember that's just a temporary fix, 2 weeks, 3 weeks max before the problem comes back. But at least you'll know what part will need to be replaced

I would drain the trans fluid and flush, replace filter as well, then you know that that side of things is correct so won't be throwing any eronneos codes, don't forget to have the OBD codes cleared before starting engine again.

Last week my check engine light came on Auto zone said it was mass air flow sensor the next day my car would not stay running like it was running out of gas

So you replaced the sensor and now the light is back on, right? Have you checked the code again to make sure it's still the MAF sensor code? If so, you've got a connector or wiring harness issue.

I would pay more attention to the air flow sensor and mass air flow sensor, putting this on a diagnostic machine will pinpoint the errors stored on the onboard computer. both sensors can be cleaned by a competent mechanic, most mechanics don't want to, they prefer just to swap items out these days because of costs. get a reading, then you will know for sure. good luck.

Yes the mass air flow sensor is tied to the trans module and is used in the calculation of the shifting points. I would change the MAF. I have ran into GM cars with MAF sensors stalling engines. Those years were notorious for it

there are no codes that say replace O2 sensors,or remove converter,Thats just somebody's guessing,When it says O2 sensor that tells the mechanic to look for trouble in that area, wiring or faulty readings,And there are four O2 sensors.

Runs rough when cruising at 35-40 mph

try pulling off the air breather hose and look inside at the mass air flow sensor,it looks like a wire with a diode hooked to it incase you didnt know, see if there is any fuzz on it,sometimes the air filter will lose small pieces and the mass air flow sensor catches it.If that doesnt work then you may have a fuel problem, weak pressure, causing the mass air flow sensor to read too much air so it tricks the computer to adjust the issue.
