Have something draining my car battery. I have a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, and I have to get a new battery about every 18 months. I had a new alternator put in, new not used, about 20 months ago. I replaced the starter 10 months ago. The car has been well taken care of. I'm very consistent about getting the oil changed every 3000 miles. It currently has 119,900 on it. Last week I took it to a reputable mechanic, thinking the battery cables and posts might be the problem. But he told me that those cables would not cause this much drain on the battery. The battery gauge in the dash shows only about 1/2 power, even when I had a new battery put in last week. The ac and heater work only 80% of the time. I was told I need a new Tempature Blend Door Actuator. Could that be draining the battery? I had the blower replaced 2 years ago. Any suggestions about what could be causing this. I could take it to a Electricial Auto Repair, for $85.00 an hour. Thank you for any help!

If you have a drain on your battery , it would not take 18 months for the battery to go dead . What do you mean The battery gauge in the dash shows only about 1/2 power, When ? When the vehicle is running ? Not charging ! The battery gauge as you call it has nothing to do with the Battery . That's showing how much the charging system is putting .The volt's indicator is controlled by the PCM - engine computer . With the engine running should show 14.1 volts .if your only seeing 7 the charging system isn't working. The alternator is controlled by the PCM as well ! Have it check by a GM dealer .

It sounds like your alternator belt is loose. It will expand as it gets warm from running the engine. That will allow the battery to drain. Tighten or replace the belt.

The gauge problem sounds like the common issue on the 03-05 Sunfire instrument clusters where the stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board fail over time. It can be fixed, check out this page for more on how to get it repaired - Sunfire instrument cluster fix

I would say, if you have worked on older cars you can handle pulling the rad and replacing the drain assembly, just watch tightening parts into the plastic rad tank.If the rad looks grungy at all when you get it out, replace it.

It sounds as though you will have to replace or clean and lubricate the weather strip seal. Take the car to a car wash and vacuum the back floor dry; otherwise it will start to smell.
