SOURCE: engine timing for a 1998 subaru forester with a 2.5

Since ignition timing is taken care of by the ECU, I guess you are asking about cam timing.
There are several marks to be aligned and if you get them wrong, you may trash your engine so I am only going to suggest you buy a Haynes service manual that has numerous good pix that show you exactly how to avoid killing your engine. And, unless you have a good-size vice well-mounted, compressing the belt tensioner again is going to give you fits.
The Haynes number you need is 89100 but it is listed only as a manual for the Legacy which uses the same engine but there may be less info that is usable on your '98 forester for which Haynes does not make a specific manual.
The later book that I have, 89101, covers all models from 2000 to 2006.

SOURCE: 2003 subaru forester stalls at idle (automatic)

This is a typical form of either dirty injectors which you can clean with a high octane gas at least 2 tanks or you can get an injector cleaner which can put in when you have a low fuel about a quarter left.

SOURCE: 2000 subaru forester ignition coil wiring

Are there any other possible problems, or you are just not receiving spark at all now?

The coilpack could be dead and just need replaced. If you have a voltmeter or a test light, check the wiring on both sides of the coilpack harness to make sure it is receiving power.
I don't believe Subaru used ignitors past '99, but if they did, your should be located on the firewall behind the throttle body. Make sure it's plugged in and receiving power.

Coil packs do go bad from time to time. I had to replace mine in my
'98 Impreza a while back.

Goodluck!

My 2009 manual subaru forrester will not shift in reverse

Assuming you can press the clutch and EASILY select fwd gears, then I'd suspect either
* the linkage from the gear stick to the transmission is being jammed / obstructed by something under the car.
* something in the center console is jamming the stick getting in to reverse.

If you can't easily select fwd gears, check the clutch slave and master cylinders.

Gear shifter won't shift into reverse or park

When you "muscled it into neural" you broke the shifter. Most likely it will take a replacement shifter to repair.

2002 Forester will not go into park or reverse. Key will not come out. Manual says use screw driver and then take to dealer immediately. Is this a hardware or electronic issue? Will I break something with...

If your key will not come out of the ignition switch then the lock mechanism inside it is already bad and will need to be replaced. There is a good possibility that your vehicle not shifting out of park is related to that as well.

Hello experts, I have 2004 Subaru Forester XT with 130K. I did a transmission flush at about 90K. The transmission shifts hard form 1st to 2nd at low speed, and there is slight jolt on faster...

No, and add some Trans X slip stop and leak stop, sold by K and W. about 16 ounces, this really helped my Forester, as a lot of them have this issue with the clutch pack in the tranny. sold at most auto parts stores and Wal Mart. take care.
