2005 Chevy Impala security light comes on when car is started. Did not want to start today

  • Anonymous Mar 04, 2009

2002 Chevy Blazer Xtreme has flashing security light and won't start for 10 minutes. It doesn't do it all the time, only when I am already running late. lol. I read that it is a security problem with the key being worn down. The ignition doesn't recognize the key and as a security measure, prevents the car from starting. How to fix... not quite sure, but I am going to get another key and see if that works.

2003 Impala Message Center will show Red_Battery, then switch to Yellow_Security, then flash Yellow_Security, then flash Yellow_Security, then flash Red_Battery, then repeat. After a while (about 10 minutes), the car will start immediately. This occured with both the old and the new battery.

Vehicle anti-theft (VAT) system is not getting proper reading from the ignition switch. Your key has a resistor built into the head of the key (a silver bar on a black backing). Shine up this bar with some fine steel wool on both sides of the key. Possibly the wiring in the steering column that leads to the VAT module has gone bad or the connections in the ignition switch that mate up with the key's resistor no longer connect properly. End result: the starter and fuel injection system remain dead when all else seems normal............Security light on dash will stay on/flashing. There will be a 3 minute dead/reset period between each unsuccessful start attempt.

You can get yourself a resistor (Radio Shack or elsewhere) that matches your key's resistor and splice it into the harness (found in the steering column) that leads to the VAT module. It will be 2 wires cased in a "hunters orange" jacket. This would be a last resort fix. The alternative is to have a dealer replace faulty parts, but this can be expensive and a resistor is cheap. (under $5)

I had this same problem . with my monte carlo . I was told from a mechanic buddy of mine to replace the battery wires as well as the brass mount that the wire goes to by the fuse box . it worked . he told me that with the littlest corrosion that the key would not get enough amps to engage the starter

Make sure your battery is fully charged, and your cables are tight. also might be a loose connection at the starter.

2003 Honda Accord 2.3l, after sitting for about 10-12 hour the car doesn’t wanna start. Usually I’ll put it in neutral and roll down a hill and it will start. However sometimes it won’t. I feel it’s not...

I would have the battery load tested. You can also remove the starter and have it tested as well. Many places will do this for free. Alternatively you could run a ground to the starter and the battery in series with what you currently have to check. It may just be a starter relay or other bad connections.

99 Pontiac bonneville wont start. just get a humming. no crank or starter sound

This may be related to the antitheft security system. The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. When it's the security locked out starter, you won't even hear a click when you turn the key. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? This is a common problem worth looking into. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/

When I turn my ignition to the start positon the headlights and the dash lights come on but no crank the security light is blinking but not to sure if that is the issue I think it could be my starter,...

if the security light is blinking, it's the VATS system not recognizing the resister pill in the key. I currently have the same non start issue, but I bypassed the VATS ignition key but the car still doesn't start. My security light acts like it should. It comes on when the key is inserted and goes off after 5 seconds. If it blinks, it's not seeing the right value.

Google VATS system bypass. Resistors cost me about 3 bucks at radioshack.
