2001 VW Beetle Will not start

Hi- I bought a used 2001 VW Beetle about 8 months ago and it has been driving and acting fine until yesterday it decided not to start.  I drove it in the morning and came back a few hours later and it will not turn over.   There was above a 1/4 tank of gas so I am assuming it is not the gas gage, and we tried to jump it and still nothing.  All the lights come on it just will not turn over.  I recently drove through a day of rain and was in the midst of a few days of smoke and ash from the SoCal fires so could these two have something to do with it?

Thank you for your help, while I wish it was as simple as a cable/battery issue it turned out to be my fuel pump.

    Thanks tho:)

I have a 2001 VW Beetle Turbo. My girlfriend was driving it and it was driving hard, it stalled out on her and won't start back. I have tried to coast start it and nothing. It sounds like it is turning over but not actually trying to start. I have about 8 codes that show up.

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D

Glad you got it fixed! Did they explain how a faulty fuel pump would prevent the car from "turning over" - as opposed to turning over but not starting? Weird! D.

Hi i bought a vw beetle was running fine the last few days. I went to drive it yesterday and it wont start the immobiliser is showing its not flashing tho. My step dad replaced the car keys battery the day...

My immobiliser keeps flashing until I put the key in the ignition and then it stops. Normally changing key batteries has a period that if the battery is changed inside that time (say 5 minutes) then the key program will not loose memory Run fault codes to see if there is a problem in the electronics. Otherwise you may have to take the car to the dealer to have the key reprogrammed to the cpu in the car

Start with checking your coolant level( only use VW coolant if low). If full, change out your coolant temp sensor. Buy the one from the dealership. The others are ****.

My 2001 new Beetle will not stay running. It starts up, then 5-8 seconds later will sputter out and die. If I pump the gas peddle a bit after it starts, it trys to stay running longer but then sputters out...

Hi There,
Try this: You will need 2 people - Have someone Spray Starting Fluid in the throttle then start the car and have someone spray the fluid continuously into the throttle. If the car continues to run you have a fuel problem, but if it stalls out, replace the coil pak. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
