This can actually be several things but most common is the coolant temp sensor, it tells the computer how much fuel to give the engine depending on temp, if the sensor goes bad then it may be giving engine too much fuel when it's warm, which may be why it starts fine cold cause it needs more fuel to start cold, try holding the gas pedal to the floor when u start it warm, if it does start and run rough for a few seconds it's cause it was flooded due to excessive fuel.. Get scanned for any trouble codes..

2005 ford focus zx4 won't start in very cold weather

Cold weather makes the engine hard to start for two main reasons. First, oil thickens when it's cold, which increases friction and makes it harder for the staner motor to spin the engine. ... You can ensure that your car will start in the worst weather by keeping the engine or the battery, or both, warm.

I have a 1985 mercedes 500 sl. It starts fine but when the engine is cold it has no power until 300 rpm. as the engine heats up this condition gradually goes awy. I have tested the EGR valve and it op

Friend, you have a faulty temperature sending unit. Change THAT and you'll have this problem no longer. The temp sending unit, when cold, will put the engine, by the computer, into cold start mode, the engine starts getting a bit more fuel until is warmed up, then the sending unit tells the computer it's warmed up and shuts down the cold start mode. Only makes sense, Right?

1989 mpv mazda does not start on cold mornings and days

I'm assuming the engine cranks with the starter but does not start and run.

check the operation of the cold start injector. This is a separate fuel injector that injects fuel into the intake manifold to help richen up the mixture for cold starts. It operates on a timer that is linked to a sensor that measures engine coolant temperature. Once warm or the timer runs out, the cold start injector is turned off. Other things to check:

Fuel pressure too high (floods engine through cold start injector), engine coolant temp sensor or intake air temp sensor is stuck at full hot (doesn't allow enough fuel for cold starts), fuel injectors are leaking (floods engine with fuel).

HARD TO START ENGINE WHEN IS VERY COLD

I read the other two solutions top your problem and I have to say, some people should not give advice, because the advice they are giving is not worth anything. NOW, let me tell you what is wrong with your car. You have a defective IAC (Idle Air Control) value. The IAC value (sometimes called a cold start value) is used as a means to quickly start your car when it is cold outside. Replace the IAC (easy to do) and your problem will be solved..

Hard to start on cold mornings but starts fine when warm

The cold start valve is not operating correctly. Either the engine coolant temperature sensor is bad or the cold start valve itself is bad. You can check the engine coolant temperature sensor by going to radio shack or any electronic store and purchase a 15k ohm or higher resistor. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECTS) harness. Bridge the 2 female spade connections in the harness with the resistor. Start the engine. If the engine starts you need to replace the ECTS. If the engine is still hard to start, you need to remove the cold start valve, (wear safety goggles, and whatever you do don't smoke) place the cold start valve in a glass and have someone crank the engine. You should see gas coming out from the cold start valve. If not take a ohm meter and measure the terminal at the cold start valve after disconnecting the wire harness. The meter should read 25 ohms. If it doesn't replace the cold start valve.

Cold start missfire

could be a cold start issue. there is a water temp sensor near the thermostat. when you start your engine first for the day it will show the engine to be cold and therefore the computer will do a 'cold start', meaning using more fuel. but this should throw a computer code. if you are not getting any codes from the computer then check for a vacuum leak. like the EGR vacuum line for starters. the egr should be closed when the engine is cold and open as the engine warms up.
