My 97 GMC Jimmy Fan problems.

My 97 GMC Jimmy whenever I turn the fan on for my ac it makes a loud screech that gets louder each higher fan speed I also here the fan going extremely fast as something will make little clanking noises with the fan box behind my glove box. If it needs entire replacement I could use an estimate all the mecha men up here are crooks.

It sounds like a fan blade is bent and is making contact somewhere , these are usually aluminium and easily pushed back into shape , but if the fan has worn out its bearings it will need to be replaced unless there is some sort of material that has wrapped itself around the fan causing it to jam up .

MIKE.
#1) YOU PROBEBLY HAVE A BAD BLOWER MOTOR OR POSS. A BURNT CONNECTION @ THE MOTOR. IF THE FAN WORKS ON ALL SPEEDS EVEN INTERMITTENTLY. THEN THE BLOWER RESISTOR IS OK WICH CONTROLLS THE VOLTAGE TO THE MOTOR TO GET THE DIFFERENT SPEEDS. WHEN THE RESISTOR BURNS OUT THE FAN JUST WON'T WORK ON CERTAIN SPEEDS. THE "RELAY" IS ONLY USED FOR HI-SPEED FAN USE. TRY HITTING THE MOTOR WHEN YOU GET IT NOT TO WORK AND IF IT STARTS THN YOU HAVE A BAD MOTOR.

#2) THE NOISE YOU HEAR WHEN TURNING THE IGN. ON AND OFF IS PROBABLY THE DEFROST DOOR CONTROLL ACTUATOR/MOTOR WICH HAS A POTENTIOMETER IN IT THAT TELLS IT WHEN TO STOP MOVING AS IT REACHES THE CORRECT POSITION. WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY OFF IT BY FEDERAL LAW HAS TO RETURN TO THE DEFROST POSITION IN CASE OF FAILURE. THE LITTLE SPLINES IN THE MOTOR OR ON THE SHAFT CAN GET STRIPPED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. TRY DUPLICATING THE NOISE BY SELECTING THE DEFROST ON AND OFF WITH THE KEY ON.
I WILL CHECK FOR YOUR FEEDBACK LATER

SOURCE: 2000 GMC Jimmy Transmission Whine

I recently took my vehicle to a transmission shop and they had to rebuilt the transmission right through. I was recently told that the transmission is a common problem in these vehicles. Sad that GM can not fix or recall the transmisison since there is a problem.

You have to unplug the old radio. The radio isn't the part in the dash. That is just the control to the radio. The radio is actually under the dash above the accelerator pedal. It should have the power wires, speaker wires and antenna wire going to it.

I had same problem. You need to change the combo signal switch. I did find a sneeky way to do it without taking off steering wheel & air bag. There are two torx screws holing it on. The one in the front of switch is easy to get to. The other one toward the left under steering wheel is the pain. Get the proper torx bit, the bit should be about 1 in long. Put just the bit in the screw and use a quarter inch wrench to loosen it. This should save you about 1 hr & alot of work. Dont forget to remove battery cables first when working around the air bag (yellow wire)

Why does the fan located in the car for the heat and ac make loud noise when you turn it on

Hello
Firstly, what kind of noise?
1) it could be some thing got into the fan blades and with the fan running = it makes noise.
2) Maybe you got worn out bearings on the fan blades

When i turn my heater on (and also the ac) it makes a loud humming noise. as i turn it higher the noise gets louder. I have a 2001 chevy trailblazer.

It is possible that a stray leaf or piece of debris is stuck in the blower fan blades. This is more likely if the noise began suddenly. You will have to access the blower and remove it to inspect the blades. If their isn't an obvious debris problem, the blower fan bearing may be wearing out and getting noisy; although this noise would slowly get worse and worse every day.

What kind of noise? Humming? Screeching? Can you tell if it's coming from front? Left? Right? Does it get louder the faster it goes? Higher pitch?

97 Neon Expresso, Schreeching Fan

Both your air con and defogger (I am assuming you mean front windshield defroster setting, and not the back window) engage the air conditioner pump/compressor.

The screeching can be either a bad belt or a bad compressor.

How long has it been since the belt was changed? If it is old, and slipping, it will cause the screech at speed.
If the belt has recently been changed, and is adjusted properly, I would start looking that the air compressor pump.
