I have a 1996 jeep that I am having ac problems with.

I thought I was just low on freon so I went to charge it and my compressor clutch was not kicking in. So I tried jumping across low pressure switch to see if clutch would engage then and it did not. I then ran a wire from battery to compressor and it kicked in started blowing cold air was working great. I thought maybe I have a bad relay so I took horn relay and swapped them around and still does not work horn still worked with ac relay in it so it was a good relay. So I am thinking there is a problem with my wire that goes to my compressor. I am not sure where this wire comes from can anyone point me in the right direction

Ok guys I am still having issues with this ac. I researched another site and read where you can pull the relay and jump from number 30 pin to number 87 pin and its the same as direct hooking clutch to battery basically so I did and low and behold ac works like this , it blows nice and cold its not low on freon no way. I checked voltage also at those two pins number 30 had 13.7 number 87 had - 0.04. I have never saw a negative reading so I am not sure what this means does anyone have a clue what I should do next thanks.

ok negative reading I guess I had the leads reversed sorry its been a long day so it read 0.04 at pin 87

Tried replacing ac clutch relay with a new one with no change. Are there no avionic or ac guys on here? I am at a loss I also had someone push the ac button inside car on and off to see if relay clicked and it only clicked when the car was started and at no other time. I also checked voltage at all pins with relay pulled to see if there was any change when ac button was turned on and off and there was no change in voltage.

The wire for the compressor clutch will come from a relay connected to the thermostat switch under the dash
ac compressors cycle according to cabin temp setting or from the climate control module

SOURCE: AC not running in my 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Changed

Hello, You have two switches which work off the pressure of the Freon. Both of these switches cut off the power to the compressor. One is for HIGH pressure and the other is for LOW pressure. Check for power at the compressor clutch connector harness while the controls are set and the engine is running. You may have power and a bad clutch.

When you say that the Freon pressure is good, does that mean the pressure is within the proper range? Too much Freon will make the HIGH switch cut off power and too little will make the LOW pressure switch cut off power.

The ideal amount(ozs) of Freon is what is recommended by the Manufactuer and it will provide a moderate amount of pressure of about 35psi-40psi. You can borrow pressure gauges, called Manifold gauges to measure your system at autoparts stores with loaner programs.

The low pressure side of the system is the one you use to induce the Freon to go into an empty system. You can bypass this switch by taking off the connector and putting a "U" shaped jumper into the harness and the compressor clutch should get power to LOCK up all of the time.

You can take off the switch connector at the compressor clutch and then check for power when bypassing the HIGH pressure switch if the LOW pressure switch does not make the system get power. Only, really only bypass the HIGH pressure switch with the clutch connector disconnected. The HIGH switch is there to prevent damage to all of the components from seals to lines to every piece of Freon hardware in the car. Bypassing with the A/C clutch disconnected will allow you to know if power is getting to the compressor clutch.

Finally, you can get FREE wiring and fusebox diagrams through Autozone.com. Just sign and register to their site and then you can print the documents for yourself.

Good luck with this repair and I hope my solution helps you.

yes there is low pressure cycling switch on low side
bypass those wire and if the clutch engage then your low in freon or switch defect

My compressor keeps cycling every 20 seconds

Usually a sign of low freon, a faulty pressure switch, or electrical problem to the ac clutch.

Ac won't get cold anymore power to compressor but won't click on clutch won't engage possible problems are compressor or evaporator what do you think?

Has the Freon been checked with a gauge to see if there is enough Freon to allow the system to work. Low or no Freon will not allow the compressor to engage. The low pressure switch is most likely activated due to low freon, and will cause this condition.

A/C clutch won't engage

ur still way low in freon the compressor clutch is designed to disengage when low on pressure so as not to overheat and seize causing possible damage to engine two ways to engage clutch --one is to jump clutch and continue to fill or keep adding freon until clutch pulls in

No cold air for a.c.

Well Bruno it sounds like you lost freon from your a/c system. The cabin filter wont restrict you from getting cold air.Check that your a/c clutch engages when you turn it on.if it dont you need freon and have to check for leaks

The AC problem

check ac compressor to see if clutch is engaging with system turned on.if not could be low system pressure safety switch which wont allow to run because freon is to low.

Ac clutch problem

Nissan came out with a Technical service bulletin on problem evaporators which caused the freon to flow from the expansion valve to the low side hose without going through the heat exchanger portion of the evaporator core it self. It can be spotted by the low side pipe from the compressor which may develop a "frost" on it. What occurs, is that the low side freezes up and has to thaw out before it will cool again.
NTB97-007a was the service bulletin.
Issued on January 15, 1998
Heading: A/C poor performance, suction side shows low or vacuum.
I feel pretty sure this is your problem. It can be verified with a set of manifold guages. The low side after it has been charged, should never drop into a vacuum and rarely drop below 20 psi. no matter how long you run the system.
The only way the problem can be solved is replace the evaporator.
Good luck.

94 Saab 90 SE AC blows hot air

Hi Bill
Usually the clutch is frozen means you need Freon R-12, please go to the small glass window on the condenser to find out there is some white bubbling inside, if you have white bubbling means your AC lack Freon, but if you lost all Freon, the window is clear, so you have to check, I hope from there, you can tell the Freon level.
